Technically, this probably belongs under Starting Life in the U.S., but I think the message is possibly more important here.

I just realized a few days ago that for the last 7 months, Mai didn't know about our 911 emergency system. It never occurred to me to explain it, because every grade school child knows how to call 911 if they need help, right?

Don't be stupid like me and forget to tell your newly-arrived spouse about how and when to call 911. And probably when NOT to.

Hey, it is a good idea to post it here too for the newly arrived people too ;)

1. Make a list of numbers to called just incase of emergency and posted on your refrigerator

2. Maps to local area - such as Hospital, Library, Market, Drugs Store

3. Bus Location (if the wife don't know how to drive yet)

4. etc. (people can add in more)

Make sure tell her not to call 911 when you come home late for an hour :) (cuz tired of seeing the wife just need sometimes on his own :) )

I made sure Thao watched Reno 911 when she came here so she would remember what to dial in case of an emergency.

06-29-09 received GC in mail

4-18-11 mailed I-751 CSC

CIS Office : California Service Center

Date Filed : 2011-04-18

NOA Date Received : 2011-06-06

Date on NOA: 2011-04-22

Bio. Appt. : 2011-06-24

Had to make an Info Pass appointment because there was a delay in receiving the NOA for our I-751. Never found out the reason for the delay but they gave Thao a 1 year green card stamp in her passport and we got a the NOA 2 days later.

Approved: 2011-09-23

911 is nothing! My spouse already told me "Women in America have lots of rights compared to Vietnam. One of best, in my opinion, and Vietnam will NEVER have is that if a man hits a woman here, we can call the cops and you guys will go to jail!"

And it's very common that VNese ladies got physically abused. (here or VN)

Uh, OK. That is one possible use of 911, I guess. But my point was, quite apart from any real or perceived rights or oppression, in the U.S. or abroad, HOW do you call the cops, not WHY do you want to call the cops, see?

Hm... 911 good point. Make sure all your wife not calling 113 (is for VN police that will protect American Citizenship in VN). I always making fun of mine wife when I am in VN. I told her when she hits me, I will call 113 to arrest her. Other way around, she is abused her husband.. hihihi..
