Hi S & S - good to see you!!!! Good morning MENA - wishing everyone a great day! NY has a perfect winter weather today - sunny, breezy and over the freezing point. I will try to get out from bed soon and maybe even venture out for a sec since my cold has been keeping me grounded for the last few days.

P.S.

S & S - I can't believe that your hubby has been here already 23 days - time is flying. Hope you are both enjoying the new "togetherness". How is he liking US so far?

Have a great Caturday everyone!!!

D.

Thanks for asking. Things are going really well. I can be a moody person, but he is really great handling it. He met all my family during the holidays and he really enjoyed it. We found out that he didn't qualify for all his refugee benifits because of my income, but we are working on getting him a decent job so he isn't just sitting around. He got his SSN card on Monday so I got him enrolled in a nurse's assistant class starting Monday which will be great. He is actually a medical school graduate, but the tests for becoming a doctor are very expensive and difficult. We both want him to spend a lot of time studying before those tests. I think taking a lower hospital job will give him some experience with how the US healthcare system works and help to encourage him for taking the more difficult medical licensing tests. The Nurse's assistant class will also teach some basics he will need to know about hospital work and once he has work as a nurse's aid for awhile it will give him a good reference when he starts applying for residency programs. This is my thoughts on the best course to take anyway. There are a lot of job openings for Nurse's aid everywhere so at least it is pretty much a guaranteed job. The course to get the license takes between 3 to 12 weeks depending on how often you go a week. He will go all day, four days a week so he can finish in about 3 weeks. After this he can take the state license test and start working :)

My husband's family was approved for refugee to Australia. He was on the paperwork to go there as well and gave it up to be with me. They will be leaving soon, but we hope that after a year he can apply for the refugee travel document and be able to go see them. They want us to move to Australia with them, lol, but for now we are staying here so I can go back to school and get my degree.

Some of the advice given here about what to expect when your spouse comes has been great and prepared me a lot though I don't think you can ever be fully prepared. No matter how many times you think you can handle a thousand questions a day, you will still have your moments where it drives you crazy. Sometimes I don't have the answer and my husband doesn't understand why I don't know, but thank God things are getting better as he gets used to things. He loves checking the mail and getting the newspaper. These were luxuries he never had before of having it all delivered to the house. Saves me the trip to the mailbox so I don't mind, lol. He has become great friends with my cat though he keeps discussing wanting to give her a bath even though she is very clean. I told him if he wants that then he must do it himself because I'm having no part of putting a cat in water, lol. My reaction to the idea has kept him from trying so far, lol. Food has been easy on my husband. He will try just about anything. Only thing he doesn't like is Dr Pepper and Mountain Dew. He prefers to stick with Pepsi and Coke, but thats okay with me as it means I don't have to share my Dr Pepper

I am so thankful to have him here and we hug all the time just knowing what we went through to get him here. I hope others still waiting are reunited with their SOs soon.
