Is student loan debt an issue?

Hello,

We finally received our NOA2 this week (YAY) and so I'm getting geared up for the next round of paperwork. As for the income...mine is just below 30,000 so I should be above the poverty line. My only concern is that I've got a large chunk of student loan debt and just a little credit card debt as well. I'm not late on payments or anything, but I want to know if this debt will hurt our chances. I really don't want to have a co-sponsor if I don't have to.

Thanks in advance for any replies!

I'm not an expert on this but I don't think your student loans have anything to do with your I-134 application. In other words, I don't think it will hurt your application in anyway. (I hope I'm right bc I have a huge chunk of student loans myself).

It's all about income and your ability to support you intended spouse. If you meet or exceed the minimum poverty line of income, you qualify.

Personal debt is not factored into the equation.

Not a problem. I've got boatloads of student loan debt (ok, maybe not boatloads, but still) and we were fine.
