kirsten,

i updated my interview day checklist for you (and others). the pink dots reflect the things you MUST take with you. (for the i-134, you can do sole-sponsorship or co-sponsor. so depending on what you do for that, you may only need the primary sponsor's (that would be the USC) financial information.)

hope that helps give you another checklist to compare what you have against.

you know what you are doing, so just trust yourself! it'll be a breeze.

You need a copy and original of birth certificate, and also police certificate? Do they take both of them?

yes, you need one original and one copy of the birth certificate and the police report.

no, they dont take your original birth certificate, but i am not certain if they take the original police certificate, or just the copy, or both. easier just to take a copy to be on the safe side.

per the london embassy website:

Document Requirements

Please obtain the original documents or certified copies and one photocopy for yourself and each family member who will accompany you to the United States. All documents that pertain to you are required, even if they were previously submitted to the USCIS with your petition.

there will probably be many things that you end up taking, but dont end up presenting. for jamie and i, it suited us best to be overprepared because it wasnt much more work than just bringing the bare minimum. my checklist has been described as over-the-top, which is just fine. it helped us feel prepared for almost any eventuality and ultimately it worked for us.

They only take the copy BUT you must present the original too so that they can check it against the copy. Ditto the birth certificate. You get both originals handed back to you when they call you back to the window the 2nd time.

This may be a dumb question but by copy do you mean photocopy? Or an official copy? My fiance (the UKC) has official copies of both (he ordered more birth certificates, and i think he got 3 police certificates when he ordered his.)

visa in hand! (whoa. how long have i waited to be able to say that? um. exactly 6 months, really.) delivered this afternoon, 2 days after interview in london. fyi, jamie lives just south of manchester in macclesfield. got there quicker than i had thought.

there are no apparent errors/issues.

i just said to jamie, 'this is my last wednesday afternoon on my own.' : D t-minus one week and counting.

Congrats on your fiance getting the visa in hand! Counting down days less than a week must be an AMAZING feeling!

No visa yet :(

Well, after reading so many positive reviews on here about the interview, and having had a B2 interview before, I figured it too would be a few short questions, check docs and go home with a smile on my face. WRONG!

It was like the Spanish Inquisition, I was asked approx 30 questions regarding our relationship  and that was before she got to the child custody questions that she had already filled out the dreaded blue form for, it was there before she'd even spoken to me!

Basically, I followed the good advice on here from many before me, got a letter from the HMRC to state there are no Parental Responsibility Agreements for my daughter handing her custody to anyone else. I then got a letter from a lawyer backing this up, and stating that under UK law, I have sole parental custody of my daughter and am entitled to take her out of the jurisdiction if I so wish. It stated that we have had no contact with the biological father since 1998 and other details. Basically, my rights and the facts on paper are water-tight. She, in my opinion, is a jobsworth. She now wants a letter from a notary public (also my lawyer, ching ching!) affirming the details I have provided are true and I must also sign it.

I do believe I have read a review that may mention this particular officer. She has long reddish blonde hair, wears a couple of fancy emerald rings and comes across as very polite but very firm. She was training somebody today also, I think I got an extra thorough grilling possibly due to this??

Very very upset, i'm pretty hormonal today and it took all my might not to burst into tears :crying:

So, in a couple of hours I have the appointment scheduled with my lawyer/notary public, which will set me back £100 ontop of the £300 I have already laid out for the custody docs. Its all so demoralising. My other half, on the other hand, seems to think things went pretty well all in all, and provided I get the passports and notorised affadavit back (courier collecting tomorrow) I may get the visas by the end of next week, I hope.

Oh, forgot to mention, the photobooth inside the embassy was out of order today, so anyone with an interview soon, go to snappy snaps quick!
