They can refund some of the application fee back if your case is not processed but people applying months after you did have their applications approved. They can ask for more from people who applications are approved faster than the norm. And they can get half of that money from the salaries of USCIS workers, add half of the money to salaries of USCIS workers.

So the government is seeing immigration as a profitable business, not as a service? Maybe the economic collapse the US is going through can explain this...

I am now a US citizen.
