like, really mean? what does it entitle us to? seems like it's just one more bureaucratic hurdle and doesn't mean much. nothing is really approved until you can prove your fiancee isnt going to be a bum and you have the interview. so why am i made to think this is exciting?

During the initial approval round (the round between the NOA1 and NOA2) they can actually still deny you... there will be no interview in that case, it will be an early denial and it happens more often than you might think.

The NOA2 is basically something that guarantees that you are allowed to the next round (the interview). It is pretty important and exciting when you think about it that you have just as much chance to get denied here as during the interview (or anywhere later in the process). The NOA2 is called 'approval notice' by the USCIS, kind of says a lot I think :)

Basically the NOA2 means as much as the visa does after the interview coz having the visa, does not mean they will still allow you to adjust for status... the whole thing is over after you have a greencard, or even become citizen, before that, every step and every approval is a good thing and something to be excited about imho.

Well, the I 129 is the longest wait! It takes some time to be approved! So, yeah, you should be excited when you'll get it. After that, everything seems to go faster! And it's rare to be denied at the embassy interview...

All it means it that USCIS had no problem with the petition as it was presented to them and they approved it for a visa interview at the consulate.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

It's just one completed step in a multi-step process. It essentially ensures your approval as a consular officer is limited (even though they pretend not to be) on how much leeway they have in refusing to adjudicate a petition which has been approved by DHS in the US.

i don't get it.

I was very excited at the time. Less so now that we are stuck, we think, at NVC.

I say I think, because they "cannot locate this case in the system. "

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

I like the way you think. Except, now that you mention it, since I have more steps to go, I am no longer excited that my husband has a green card because they might deny us at the removal step.

Seriously OP, be excited that you are not in the denial pile. Yeah there are hurdles to over come, but you are one step closer to the ultimate goal, and that, is something to be excited about.

what does it entitle us to?

It entitles your fiancee to apply for a Kx visa for the next 90 days.

Whether or not that entitlement makes you happy is another matter entirely. ;-)

Actually the NOA2 for I-129F is valid for 120 days. (four months) from approval date but it's really a non-issue since Consular Officers routinely extend the validity.

The NOA2 entitles your fiance to apply for a K1 visa. Which, I presume, you want him to do and acquire?

Your choice to be excited about ti or not. I was excited, since it meant we were one step closer to being together on a permanent basis.

Getting the NOA2 means you're one step closer to being together, which is the ultimate goal on a K1 visa.

Excitement i guess is upto the individual, but personally i've been dancing around the room since i heard we have ours!

The NOA2 is the least challenging step of the process as I understand it, so in that sense, getting it is not much of an accomplishment, success or failure here is very predictable, are you married... then you failed... I think generally most people know if they are married or not, I know in some cases the question of being eligible to marry are a little less obvious but generally yeah, the NOA2 has a low burden of proof.

But in terms of the overall process the NOA2 is generally the bulk of it... somewhere around 70% of the time is waiting on the NOA2, with generally no news, nothing you can do about it, all you can do is wait and to some degree put your life on hold... this is what the big deal is, once this step is over, you are practically done, and, those final steps even if the burden of proof is higher are a lot more in your control or at least, the steps are smaller and you have specific goals to accomplish to get done.

The NOA2 is a big deal, but only because of the time it takes to get the thing... seriously, if you just walked into an office somewhere, plopped down $500 and you walked out the door with the equivelant NOA2... it'd hardly be a cause for celebration...

well thanks for your input, everybody. this process has made me pretty jaded. i dislike not being completely in control of things. the process is self explanatory but you could get denied for any damn reason at any point in the process. i wish it were more fair somehow. like an interview over 3 days or something. more personal. but i guess red tape is all about the hive mind and lack of emotion.

everybody have a good holiday and hang in there...
