My fiance had his interview in New Delhi on November 12, 2008. He was given a 221 g asking for engagement ceremony pictures, receipts, and a guest list of 20 guests. The issue is, we never had a ceremony  seeing that we don't do that in the USA it never dawned on us. I am reading other forums which said they were never asked for that kind of proof. I am wanting to know has anyone been asked for that? My fiance wrote an extensive letter explaining this, and I have sent a notarized affidavit which he turned in to the VFS office on Nov 14. Does anyone know a timeline of when we can expect to hear back from the embassy on a 221g? I have contacted the embassy via email, and they only reply in general that they have received our documents and a consular has to review. You would think the photos of us together and a year's worth of phone records (of us talking literally a couple of times a day), cards, emails would have been enough

PS we met while i was there for work, and spent 3 months together

Hi kaushalia,

I am currently going thru a 221(g) ordeal with the New Delhi consulate; our first 221(g) was for additional relationship information [engagement guest list info, pics, phone records, chat, email, notarized permission from both sets of parents agreeing to the marraige, affidavit explaining our relationship, etc] - we got a response within 2-3 weeks. If you call the embassy's IV line and speak with someone they will also quote the 2-4 week time line. Unfortunately, in our case, we got a second 221(g) for different information - I think we'll have the paperwork in tomorrow or Tuesday and we're anticipating another 2-4 weeks for a second answer. If you do some searches here on the New Delhi embassy and 221(g) you'll see that requesting engagement pics/guests lists happens occasionally and most people have no issues and get the visa shortly after handing in the additional support paperwork.

PM if you want to talk!

You will need to write a letter to the consulate explaining how you two got engaged and that there was no ceremony and your fiancee will write the same and submit it at the consulate. This is exactly what Daniel did coz he was with me during the interview and I was given the visa in 2 days (probably the shortest AR ever). All the best

Thank you for your responses. I was worried because I kept sending emails, and was getting no where. It is comforting to know that our 4 weeks are almost up. We were just really wanting to be together for Christmas because it is the only time of year that all of my family members come in from out of town/out of state. Lol, I was beginning to wonder were we the only couple that had to deal with this issue. I will definitely look for other posts. I will keep you updated  and pray for the best for all.

Yippee Skippee, lol, well, the dream of spending Christmas together will just have to wait until next year. My fiance just called the embassy, and they are so backlogged that they will not review until the end of December. Guess I will tell my family to hold his gifts they already bought him until he gets here.

It $ucks. Daniel put up the xmas tree for us last year and put all my gifts under the tree. We ended up opening them and taking down the tree in march and made up for the christmas.
