YAY!!! Out of AP and on to our consulate in 10 business days! Whew... I was thinking that this would be a much bigger bummer :) Thanks for the great information everyone!

I sure hope to get out that fast. After more than four months at USCIS and finally(!) receiving our NOA2, I have never gone from being so happy to so bummed so quickly.

N-400

Feb. 12, 2016 - Sent N-400 to USCIS (3-year rule)

Feb. 19, 2016 - NOA1

Mar. 14, 2016 - Biometrics

I had my I-130 sent back to Vermont service center from NVC after about 6 months AP. But my I-129f K3 flew right through in a couple of weeks. I'm sure you will not wait long for a fiance visa. There is alot more to prove and check when you actually are married than a new couple from my experience.

If I could be anything, I would be a tear.

Not correct.. they look at K1's more deeply in many countries..

I don't understand this whole "background" thing. I was told that the reason it takes the USCIC to do their thing is that they are checking our "background". WHY then do we have to get police certificates, police clearances, etc?? Plus, provide all the information for them, meanwhile they are doing the same thing. I guess I don't get it.

They can do background checks at all 3 stages as well as an additional round done by DHS after the interview in some cases.

The background checks at stages 1 & 2 are usually about the USC and the rest are the SO..

All, this thread seems a bit dead (Except for Scott, thanks Scott) But I just wanted to say a couple things! First, I am out of AP!!!  Our case was sent to Manila today! only 18 days, but it felt like 180. Second, thank you all for being here virtually! I read through this entire thread while waiting..and everyones wit, humor and positive attitudes really helped. I feel bad for whining so much when I only had 18 days at the NVC, and some of you good folks endured weeks. Anyway, thanks for this thread, its been my best consolation here on VJ! Most of you that started this thread are already with your loved ones in the US. May you all have pleasant and easy continuation of your journey and your life.

Just called and they said my packet is off to the embassy... only one week. Don't let AP scare you... I think tons of people go through "AP" and don't even know it because they are processed within a week or two.

Then why the redundant viewing, background checks, etc.? If they don't have the power to deny it, what do they have the power to do? We're not at that point yet, just asking after reading all of these comments.

We were on AP at NVC level last year for about 40 days, if I remember correctly. We were told that occasionally petitions are ' randomly pulled ' and put into more checks. Then once our case was forwarded to the Embassy, we spent another 6 months in AP .

NVC does not have to power to deny cases.

This WAITING really has me worried and anxious.... I know people have said that it's very unlikely for NVC to deny an "approved K1 petition" and send it back to USCIS, but I cant help but think of the worst sometimes.... why is this happening to us :-( ...... I just wish this would end soon.
