It's not terribly complicated it is just a wait for everything to go through. Hang in there - and just get your paperwork filed. The people here are great at answering questions.

If you read most of the website then you would realize that a lot of people manage to go through the process in 8-10 months.

Just relax and follow the guides. No use getting panicked now when you haven't even started the process. It takes a lot of patience.

It is not very complicated, but you need to UNDERSTAND the options and procedures, be careful with details, and ask every time you are in doubt. The real nuisance is the WAITING, so be ready for it..

My boyfriend and i have been talking about myself and my 3 children moving from canada to the US....and now the way I feel I will be 80 yrs old by the time I can get over there. Can anyone tell me please that this just seems alot more complicated than it is????

It might take a year. If you're 79 now, I doubt your children are young enough to immigrate with you. Sorry.

Are you planning to get married first, then go, or go and then get married? When you want to get married will decide which visa you'll have to get (with you and 3 kids going, I'd suggest getting married now and then petitoin and apply for CR1 visas for the lot of you. K1/K2s or K3/K4s + AOS will be awefully expensive!) CR1 is about one year processing, give or take a few weeks.

Where in Canada do you live, and where in the US does your boyfriend live? Processing times differ across the service centres.

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

I would concur but with a correction. CR1 is a spouse visa. The kids get CR2 visas. It might take a couple months longer but will save you a couple thousand in fees and allow you to work as soon as you desire after entry.

Welcome VJ,

The most cost effective way to be with your partner is to get married and then apply for the CR-1 visa, the waiting is the hardest part, but the sooner you are married the faster it will go. The fastest way is the K1 - the fiance visa. CR-1 are only processed in Montreal but the K1, and K3 are done in Vancouver if you live west of Winnipeg. Any path that you chose has both benefits and disadvantages. Remember it takes awhile to get things in order for any of the visas. ie: copies of long birth certificates, marriage/divorce certificates both parties, depending on any custody arrangements -the ability to take your children to another country. Many of these things you can start with right on Monday - (long birth certificates).

Good luck and stop by for frequent doses of cheering up!

Thanks, I didn't know what # was given the derivative visas for the kids. I don't have any, and we adopted our furkids after I got here ;)
