Hey all,

I managed to find a job in one of our US offices so I can move to be with my wife, and the company is currently working on the paperwork for the Visa. I'm wondering about driving a Uhaul across the border and what paperwork do I need to fill out. It seems like I just need to fill the 3299 form. Is that correct?

Also...the only things I will be taking will be like my bed, tv and stereo, computer, clothes, and few dishes and what nots.

thanks!

I moved my belongings from BC Canada to WA USA in a UHaul this past July. I moved here to be with my husband on a K3 Visa. We just made an itemized list of furniture items, numbered the boxes and recorded the box # and contents as we loaded them. (We listed the box contents very generally...i.e., books, kitchenware, clothes, etc., and listed the items in the back of the truck on a separate sheet from those in the trailer). We crossed at Peace Arch, Blaine border crossing...the officer directed us to secondary, and they had us unlock the truck and UHaul and go inside. We were there all of 5 minutes, they barely scanned our list and sent us on our way. Very fast, easy and painless.

if ur accompanying the items, which if using a Uhaul u are, then u just need to make up an inventory list! No requirement for form 3299 which is for unaccompanied items! I just made a "table" in MS Word and grouped stuff together

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I used U haul as well and it went ok. Ensure you inspect the truck!! U haul at times uses sub par vehicles! Mine was nearly new, only had like 80,000 miles, lol Ensure u check all fluids and tire pressure!!

Ya i showed the POE dude my list and he stated it was better than what he would have done for himself!! I didnt get carried away, but stil had like 4 or 5 pages. I had a full Uhaul, so I wanted to ensure my paperwork reflected that, lol.
