As far as Halal or Haram is concerned: The Quran does not specifically state that a person can't smoke. It does however tell you not to harm your body... and smoking harms your body.

With that said: Is smoking good for you? No. Is it nice to smoke some hookah and or cigarettes when you're stressed? Yesssssss.

So I guess cigarettes are Haram.

MY problem is when men pick and chose what to follow and what not to follow. I think if you're man is 100% religious and not a hypocrite, you should try your best to do the same. Or at least you can understand where he is coming from. But if HE is going to pick and chose, so should you :) That's how I explained the hijab thing. He said: "It's Sunnah!" and I said: "Then where is your beard?!" Since then... he's shut up.

Speaking of Hookah, I could REALLY use some right now. Mmmmmmm.

I am the only person in the family that smokes, my husband babies me, so he is very gentle with me, and that is cool, my oldest daughter hates it, sends me u-tube videos and lots of things to make me stop. My mother hates it, pretty much everyone here hates it, but me. I had stopped smoking for over 12 years, than I went though my divorce, and that was the end of that, soon I was smoking again. Horrible habit, but even when I was a non-smoker I didn't go crazy how some go when they stop smoking and than turn all anti smoking.

I had to throw Britney up here, isn't she just a wonderful role model. The way she is dressed in this picture takes my breath away, nothing sexier than seeing a tattoo stretch across a pregnant belly.

OK - Jenn, I hate double standards, but I do agree with Kelly somewhat, too. In Argentina, there are so many women who smoke so that they can stay rail thin. It is truly wild, but girls are taking up smoking at 15-16 years old so that they won't eat. I guess what gets me is women of childbearing age smoking...it freaks me out. The other day at work I was sitting outside in a nice common area that just so happens to be smokers alley. This woman was out there puffing away and she's 7 months pregnant. I was like...are you f*cking crazy???? I was ready to go up and hit her on the head like the V8 commercials. That just pizzes me off. I want to say, "way to give your baby a chance, douchebag!"

ALL of my israeli in laws smoke ALL of the time including while hugely pregnant and miraculously their kids are all born on time and fine (I know - ADD comes later).

I noticed everyone in argentina was so THIN!

I always thought it was mahkrooh not haram. Meaning disliked/frowned upon but not forbidden. Maybe someone else has more insight on the Islamic aspect of it?

Everyone in Tunisia was smoking - men, women, even saw some "kids" like 10-13 years old lighting up. Almost all the women in Jihed's family ages 17 to 35 were lighting up. Especially all his female cousins - forever smoking. So it's not frowned upon the same way there. I'm not sure about Egypt or other MENA countries though.

I would insist that if it's an issue of what other people would think if they saw you, then he should not smoke in public either. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.

Him being able to smoke but you not being allowed to is just not fair, and I wouldn't put up with that!

But smoking is bad for you anyway.

I TOTALLY AGREE JEN! I THINK WHAT HE'S FORGETTING IS THIS IS AMERICA, AND YOU HAVE AS MUCH OF A RIGHT TO SMOKE AS HE DOES... THOUGH I WISH YOU WOULDN'T ITS SOOOOO BAD FOR YOU!!!

I was fortunate enough to marry a man that doesn't smoke or drink, or like tatoos or motorcycles... the list just goes on and on and on.... Crazy to think but for me he REALLY is the perfect man!

Catch ya all soon!-Amy
