well I was smoking when I met my husband in Morocco

I definitely knew what times I could smoke and not and who to smoke around and who not, if I didnt already know I learned real quick

Not a problem that I smoke, one reason, I think, so he can bum cigarettes off of me

I still need to get a sheesha....where on earth do you get the stuff to smoke in it???

However I can attest to the men not wanting others to see "their" wife in a certain light

HUMPKIN PUMPKIN...."that sucking of the teeth sound???"

You mean other guys do this too??:P

Not just other guys, now my 11 yr old does it to hubby when he does something she doesn't like! Makes him laugh soooo hard when she does that!!!:rofl:

I would insist that if it's an issue of what other people would think if they saw you, then he should not smoke in public either. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.

Him being able to smoke but you not being allowed to is just not fair, and I wouldn't put up with that!

But smoking is bad for you anyway.

RIGHT??? I know. I'm gonna stop as soon as the financial distress that I'm in ends.

In Ghana it is a definite no-no for women to smoke. If you do see a woman smoking she is called (1) a foreigner or (2) loose/prostitute/disrespectful/useless.

in Jordan I got the same feeling.

I forgot one day and lit up in front of the courthouse... soon we were standing behind a collumn and i didnt understand why, then...oh ya, silly chiminey smoking Lisa lol

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

I have been sick with a chest cold for one week straight now

I have only had 2 cigarettes in 8 days...I have been ok, but once in a while I feel the urge

I swore once hubby got here I'd quit, for that was the reason I was so stressed, upset, bored

I know it is bad too, and costly

now the cost is double...I am sure I am going to QUIT!

Double standard for sure. I know hubby smokes sometimes when he goes out and sometimes on breaks at work, but he's never done it in front of me. He didn't smoke when he arrived. One day I grinned at him and said, very casually, "Yeah, ya know, sometimes I get a craving for a cigarette too." That stopped him dead in his tracks. "What did you say?" I repeated it, and oh heck no, that wasn't an image he wanted in his brain at all! He has suggested that I try shisha sometime, though it would have to be somewhere where nobody he knew saw me -- at least nobody from MENA -- but I'm not curious enough about shisha to care at this point. And ever since I quit smoking many years ago, the smell of cigarettes makes me ill, so that particular double standard is mostly a nonissue for us.

"WOMEN should not smoke, smoking is for MEN!".

Awww... miskeen.

sorry, i don't have much advice... but he can't yell at you for something he does himself...

i'm trying to get mine to quit myself.

So far all i've suceeded at is making him get all upset when i steal his cigarettes and sit by the window and pretend to light up.

I smoked for years and smoked in jordan and in front of my in laws, no one ever had a problem with it. My MIL even smokes.

Hubby still smokes like a chimney

However, I quit when I found out I was preggo and NEVER went back, not even one puff. We do smoke hookah every once in a while but I hardly like it as it upsets my tummy.

On the men not wanting their wife to smoke...

THIS IS MERELY MY OPINION, I DONT WANT TO GET BASHED FOR THIS..

OK, when I see a women smoking, especially a women with children, it pretty much makes me sick to put it loosely. I think its just not very lady like. AGAIN i could be being biased since I once was a heavy smoker but, that is just how I feel. It makes me sick to think I once looked and smelled that way... Cigarette smoke is not a nice smell on a man or a women. I just think men have this idea of a women being made up and smelling like perfume, and when she smells like a cig, its just not very pleasant

I just don't see what's so manly about smoking. It's a disgusting habit regardless of your gender.

*stepping away because double standards make my blood boil if you haven't picked that up already :P *
