Keeping the romance alive differs for everyone. It can be as simple as buying flowers for no reason other than she likes them and you want her to know she's important to you. Sometimes washing the dishes (not my job) when she doesn't feel like it or is tired, is a big item. Mostly I have found that just doing little things to say, "I care and love you" is all it takes.

The important thing is to not get complacent and just accept the other person. Romance also is a way of reminding yourself of why you fell in love. A touch, a kiss, a hug, a smile all are ways of showing that person next to you that they are still very special to you.

THANK YOU 1HappyGuy. I struggled mightily and couldn't say as well what you stated so clearly in much fewer words.

You guys have it easy.

Every day is a challenge with my wife. I buy flowers, should've bought better ones. I do dishes, shouldn't have waited so long. I love you, Of course you must love me I make for you privelige of loving me.

About a month ago I decided I'd be all romantic for my wife. New Victoria's Secret number, little massaging pillow for her neck and shoulders, some tea and honey.... I was all set. Well, when I got home, the massager box was empty and the lingerie was, of course, the wrong size... needless to say the night didn't end up how I was hoping. I did get some brownie points for trying but all I really did was confirm my inability to do anything romantic.

Tough gig brother. I wish I had some sage advice, but "I got nuthin'".

Slim, it sounds like you just need to stick with what works. Get that rotor in the air like you just don't care...

Romance is difficult, my wife and I got romantic a lot after she first arrived and 9 months later our son was born. This has made things a bit more complicated as anyone could guess. I try to do little things for her. Like today she took my son to a botanical garden with a friend of hers and her friends two kids. They were gone about 3 hours and in that time I cleaned the house and got the laundry done. She was very happy but then our son who is now getting his one year molars has been having a bad day so that kind of killed things a little.

Slim my best advice for you is keep trying, make her feel the most important and just love her. Her reactions may be insecurity, she is a long way from everything she knew and she may be a bit scared. Of course I could be wrong what do I know about anything just ask my wife. :)

It's far from easy, or idyllic! I get 'in trouble' more times than I can count, usually wondering just what, exactly, I did wrong (or even differently than what Natasha does).

I heard a thing on the radio the other day, excerpts from a book entitled "Not Quite What I Had Planned" where people summarize their life/philosophy in exactly 6 words. My favorite? "You're right, I'm wrong, I'm sorry." because it very well exemplifies periods we all go through with our SO. Frustrating as hell sometimes, I agree.

I see you're quickly coming up on your 2 year anniversary, slim. Perhaps we can all put our heads together and come up with some ideas.....

My research (reading articles) found that a significant number of women use emotion, spontaneity and romance to satisfy them selves; and I on the other hand, do not know anything about these things. As a husband, I always thought that if I am being fulfilled sexually, then I will be able and willing to provide everything that my wife needs. Of course, this description is not exact, but it is pretty close.

One day, I came up with the idea of questioning my wife to find out what her needs were, rather than relying on my off-the-mark guesses. I simply asked her a few questions like: what she wanted, what she dreamed of, what things she wanted to change, and what she hoped to do. She was quite frank and honest in her answers. I found out that talking to her about certain of her ideas was a catalyst to her feeling that I cared enough about her. And now, we regularly communicate in this way. What has resulted is a more fulfilling relationship.

I still do not know anything about emotion, spontaneity and romance; however, I got a dose of all three one evening last month. We were watching an old (1965) Jimmy Stewart movie entitled Shenandoah. Guess what happened during the final scene of the movie? Tears came to my eyes, as always at the end of this movie. And guess what happened when my wife noticed me getting emotional during the final scene? She gave me a lesson in spontaneity and romance.
