I-134 question - is this ok?

I'm trying to gather together the information I need for the I-134 but I don't know if what my bank is willing to give me is going to be ok. My bank said they don't print information for customers on letterhead so they are going to give me a little print-out on carbon paper that has the average daily balance, my current balance, and the date the accounts were opened. I guess when I go in and pick it up I'll ask that they add the amount deposited for the past year. Does this seem ok? I guess it just seems a little less than official to me because it's this little piece of paper and that's it. What did your banks do? Thanks for the advice!

My bank gave me exactly what the I-134 asked for.

Have you talked with the manager and shown them the I-134 requirements? Maybe if they saw the form, they would realise that it is a government request. Also, you could put your own letter together, explaining the situation, and backing it up with copies of your statements.

However, are you aware that you may not even need the bank letter? If your salary is good enough, then a letter from your employer will probably be sufficient.

Best of luck,

The manager of my bank wrote a letter on their stationary stating my deposits for the year and my account balance on that day. Then he signed it. The manager that wrote the letter for me said he had written many letters for Affidavit of Support over the years.

karamitchell,

I didn't provide any bank account information - my income was comfortably adequate and I don't keep a significant amount of money in my bank accounts anyway.

My bank typed a letter with this information and a bank employed signed it. I had to bug them a bit to do this, but I took in the I134 instructions and they finally did it. Suggest following the I134 instructions

Wow, I wish I banked where you all bank. I typed up a letter. printed out and highlighted the requirements on the I-134 instruction forms, and went over everything orally with the customer service lady. Hm, maybe I'll try going to a different branch. I appreciate your answers, though! When you say "if your salary is good enough you might not need a letter from your bank" what exactly is a good enough salary? Thanks!

karamitchell,

A 'good enough' salary is comfortably above the federal poverty level guideline. ('Comfortable', like 'good enough', can be a bit subjective.)

'Good enough' or not, the money in the bank won't help unless the amount is substantial - also subjective, but enough to live on for several months should income cease might be a meaningful amount.

I also have a question regarding the I-134. First question, my fiancee has a son, do I just photocopy the notarized for for him, or do I need to print the same I-134, except put his name and then get it notarized?

Also question number 11, What is everyone checking here? DO you intend or not intend on making specific contributions to support the person named in #3. My lawyer never asked me this question, and he check Not Intend. Is one answer better than the other? If so what has everyone put for this question???

mike,

If the consulate requires separate I-134s for K2s then they should be properly done.

At one time in the not too distant past I-134 Q11 included a parenthetical note that the question only needed to be answered if the sponsored alien would be in the USA temporarily. The note is gone but the anecdotal evidence is that the thought remains. My sense is that any answer is acceptable except 'Hell no, they're on their own'. I answered 'yes - will provide food, clothing, housing, and all other living expenses', because that was the plan.
