Ohmygoodness. In my posting frenzy of today I must have bumped your thread right off the front page. I am so sorry. I just wanted to say "Welcome to VJ!" and to mention that Trailmix is in Lake Mary, too, and I am just down the road over in Lake County!!!!!

Oh, and I didn't eat much for American Thanksgiving. We were at my inlaws in NC and I don't really like southern-style cooking.

I've very overweight, and have done every diet in the book. I always lose lots of weight, usually lots at the beginning of my diet regime. It's taken me 51 years to finally come to the realization that it's not going to happen overnight, and that these "diets" have helped contribute to the mess I'm in now.

Several months ago, I began looking at my life and eating habits. I made changes to many things in my life. I'm eating whole foods, grains, non-processed foods when possible, fruit and vegetables, but I'm still eating "everything". I've never felt better in my life. I've lost 17 pounds, and haven't been on a diet. While I have way more pounds to shed, this time I do believe it will stay off for good.

Never lament that you ate turkey with all the trimmings! I did as well, just in smaller portions this time

I have gained 35 pounds, dudette, since moving here. I think its really because I didn't have a car and I walked everywhere until I moved here.

But, hey, all you can do is be positive and try to work it off. I'm moving next week and am looking froward to having my own kitchen, for once, and also getting a treadmill. Woo hoo I say.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

If ur condo has anyone below u--which i dont think urs does---best check with condo regs to see if treadmills are allowed!! Some Condo associations can be a nightmare, fine ya for anything

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

It ain't a condo flamesy...it's a townhouse. So they are side to side, not on top of one another ;)

Everyone should move to Lake Mary  - no hang on, then it would get more crowded and the prices would go up.

Why are you in Lake Mary Brian and Jenn? Did the U.S. citizen already live here?

I have gained 18 lbs since leaving Calgary - so that's enough of 'trying out' all these new American foods :hehe:

Krikit, what's on a Southern thanksgiving menu at the inlaws house?

How long have you been here? We have been here since early April, drove down from Calgary (where we were living until we decided to move down here). Yes, it is expensive, for what really is a 'small' place (although I see it as just being in Orlando really) - these are not small town prices. We rent a small house for $ 975 a month.

There have been threads posted in this forum and a poll too, about weight gain since coming to the U.S. - interesting. I can say that generally I have probably eaten more processed food than I would have in Calgary - just because it is new and interesting.

I think we should have a Canada forum weight gain poll - might whip one up today (will use low-cal whip)

Good idea with the poll, im glad its just not me - lol!

I have also been here since April 2007. She flew to Toronto to hang out for the weekend, then we decided to extend it to a week. I took her to see Niagra falls and we had a blast. She just missed seeing snow by maybe 10 days, which sucks.

She had already lost one ticket to reschedule for a week, then we cancelled that one as I had some time free. I ended up driving her back to Florida so I could have a bit longer vacation with her. Nearly 3 months later I still could not say 'goodbye'. My profession allowed me to work from home so that was nice.

I guess time flew and I ended on an overstay. We married in March of this year and have had an amazing time.

That was getting to long so ill just stop rambling lol

P.S. Yessssssss I cannot believe the cost of living in Lake Mary. For $1,000 a month in Sudbury you can get a big 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom. Here it is a 2 bedroom 1 bathroom shoebox

DIET is a four letter word.

And you know it never has lasting effects.

A better choice of words and hence attitude is this:

I am changing my eating habits/choices.

(Well, something like that...it is not coming to me in this moment.)

Think nutrition and avoid sugars and fat.

:star:

SpiritAlight edits due to extreme lack of typing abilities. :)

You will do foolish things.

Do them with enthusiasm!!

Don't just do something. Sit there.
