does anyone know if there is a way to find out what montreal is up to, seems like we are all at a stand still in interviews, noone has received one for a while and i was just wondering, do they change and start scheduling for dif visas or do they just do first come first serve,

you know what i am wondering the same thing...I noticed (based on the timelines) that there were a lot of couples scheduled for interview in Oct..I was optimistic ...but it seems that they stopped scheduling interview from there... i also noticed that people under IR-1/CR-1 are the only ones who have interview sked in Dec...As far as i know, the only couple under K1 who got the interview date are amy and david...and take note it's going to be on Feb 25,2009...it is still a long time to wait...As for the others including us, we have absolutely no idea what's going on..My fiance called the DOS yesterday and still nothing..

It's hard and annoying..If we only knew that it is going to take this long,we would've gotten married in April '08 like we planned...We choose to wait and go under the K1 visa because we were expecting to be together within 6 months of filing.

Montreal Consulate sure is holding people's lives in here...

Timeline

^^The K1 usually takes anywhere from 7-12 months, so 6 months is a stretch. It's a crapshoot always, even the CR1 and K3 take a long time, soyou can never be sure.

Looking at past timelines, it seems to be normal that they do not schedule many K1 interviews in Dec/Jan. I don't know if its because of the holidays or because they are scheduling other visas, but I know someone who is doing a CR1 and they were not scheduled in December either.

In another thread there was also a pattern around scheduling where it appeared that they scheduled a whole batch around the middle of the month or the following months. I'm thinking that the people who are waiting who sent back their packet 3's will probably get something schedule in mid-December for February/March. That's just my prediction though.

I'm hopeful for a March interview, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's April. I'm just looking at the positive side of it... I save more money, the weather will be nicer for our Montreal vacation and I'll move to NY in May/June and be unemployed for the summer months.

Well when it comes near the end of the year, the Govt workers are forced to take holidays, as it is use or loose it. And of course the consulates is closed for a few days around Xmas. As well I would think a lot of people do not know about Visajourney so your not seeing a true picture of the movement

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

It seems to generally be first come first served from what we can track here on VJ - however that doesn't apply to IR1/CR1 vs K visas, off and on they have favoured one over the other in terms of scheduling interviews.

In looking at the K visa spreadsheet and the IR1/CR1 timeline, it does look like the K visa interview scheduling seems to have come to a bit of a standstill lately. I don't think that's unusual...at other times it seems to be the other way around with K visas getting their interviews first and IR1 not being scheduled until later (just what i've generally heard in here). Anyway, here is some recent data from both timeline trackers:

Well I can understand the holiday thing, but still not at least having our interviews scheduled? I just want the date so I can start figuring things out - including work (I'm lucky that I have an understanding boss :S), packing etc. 3 months on Monday since I sent my P3 - that's a bit ridiculous. And I will be quite miffed, and the coverletter than accomplinied my P3 said that it would take "2-3" months for the scheduling.

Well Montreal, you're time is almost up and I see you've done little...

Well I emailed the Montreal consulate about my interview on a whim (knowing I wouldn't get an answer) and they emailed me back saying that they are waiting for my DS230 forms.

I sent back DS230 part 1, the checklist and filled out DS160 online.

Am I missing something? Was I supposed to send DS230 part 2 as well?

Tehy said that when they get my forms its a 1-2 month wait. Haha yeah right.

Montreal is really disorganized, they probably have the correct forms. When I received my packet 3, I also got another person's packet 3 to my address, different name. I e-mailed MTL right away to say that I received someone else's packet 3 to my address. They replied right away to apologize, throw it out and they would send the person a new one straight away. They did send a new one straight away - TO MY ADDRESS AGAIN!! I was like are you kidding me? I e-mailed them again and they apologized again, LOL. I felt bad for the poor girl waiting for her packet 3 that kept coming to my address!

Well they emailed me back and said they had a mail backlog of 2 weeks. So basically their first email meant that I'm not in the system yet.

Gotta love the excellent communication skills. Not.

So if it takes them 2-3 weeks to put you into the system and then another month or two to schedule an interview, looks like you guys should be hearing something any day now.

Hi everyone, this is my first time posting. But, like you, I am frustrated with the waiting game. Chris and I have been waiting, as you can see by the update, for our interview to be scheduled. I have been calling the DOS, twice a week, but no interview has been set yet. I had a bit of hope recently when Amy had success. After all, we submitted only one week apart. But... nothing. Sigh.

Montreal received our packet-3 on Sept 23rd, so... obviously we were hoping to make it before the end of the year. Now we are assuming it will be March, or worse. Ugh. Patience, I hear, is recommended. Ha.

Anyways, now that I figured out how to log in and post, I'll be sure to keep you updated on any changes from our end. Chris and I read the forum posts all the time, so I figured I may as well get in the game and post along with everyone else waiting.

Best of luck, fingers crossed, and to anyone who thought the DOS might be closed today - they're open and taking calls!
