Birth Certificates

Available. The issuance of birth certificates in Thailand began in Bangkok in 1917. Records of birth are often lacking for people born in Bangkok before World War II and for those born in other areas of the country up until the 1970s. Birth Certificates are issued by "Amphur," (geographic subdivision roughly equivalent to a county in the U.S.) district authorities having jurisdiction over the place of birth. There may be a fee for this service.

A Thai citizen older than 15 and born in Thailand, whose birth was not registered, must present in its stead a household registration, together with a Thai national identity card ("bat prachachon"), and may also be required to submit additional proof of the claimed relationship.

YMMV

Your fiancee will have to go to the amphur's office where she was born. Rin was born near SiSaKet and a family member was able to obtain it for her (it would have taken several hours of bus, train, or car travel for us to go there for it from Bangkok). Interestingly, her aunt (maternal) went and they would not give it to her. They told her a male family member with the same last name had to request it. Her uncle (paternal) went the next day and did not have any problem. That may be a case by case issue.

Cost for a copy of the BC was 15 to 20 baht.

Also, make sure you get a certified translation of the BC. You won't need it at the Bangkok Embassy, but you will need a translation when you file for adjustment of status (green card) in the USA.

I've seen alot about the B/C thing in Thailand. My wife flat out doesn't have one. She went to the Amphur in Si Saket and got a letter stating that she doesn't have one, and that she was born here on this date. I also included copy of passport, copy of blue book (house book) English and Thai, copy of ID card English and Thai. She was approved with this. I am now waiting for the interview date. Pretty sure it will be January.

This seems to be good enough for NVC and the embassy. From what I have seen, people have had issues with USCIS adjusting status without the B/C. The quote from the previous post is from the DOS website.

(I'm going for the IR-1 and blowing off the K-3. Even if it takes an extra couple months, it's worth it to not have to deal with USCIS again)

"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Note:

Please fill out I-130, wait 6 months for approval, then 3 more months for an interview. (Unless of course we've bombed your country into the stone age, then you qualify for expedited processing.)

Welcome to the USA!!!
