We'll likely be working with a company called Crown Relocations.

They're pretty full service (pack stuff for you, unpack it later, handle all the paperwork at customs, etc.) and seem reasonably priced. They're also the one company that I contacted that called me back the same day.

However, I recommend being very critical of what you'll bring. Shipping (even in 'groupage', which is likely what you'll do, unless you have enough to fill a 20ft or 40ft container all by yourselves) is pretty expensive and to may make financial sense to bring only mementos and highly personal stuff and just buy the rest in the US.

Just to compare: we'll be shipping a maximum of 3 cubic metres of stuff, all boxed and ready. The price for that (minus possible additional cost if something gets delayed / there is a paperwork mess) is pretty close to € 2000. I've heard prices of well over € 10.000 for people who brought actual furniture, bikes and whatnot. You can buy a _lot_ of stuff for that kind of money, so unless you own high quality, inheritable or otherwise valuable things, I'd not bother bringing them.

Oh and, since you'll be providing the company with a copy of your visa (once you get it), there will be no taxes you need to pay on whatever you bring in.

Thank you Pluis.

I will just take my personal stuff with me. That should fit in two or maybe three (extra) large suitcases. I will take a look at Crown Relocations though.

Hi,

me and my fiancee are Dutch/American as well and I'm the Dutch one. We just got our NOA2 and I had a question. I heard that we have to pay another fee and we'll have to bring the receipt or proof of payment to the interview. my question was when and how do we pay this fee? or will we find that out in a letter from the embassy?

You can pay it via online bank transfer, its an ABN AMRO bank account you have to send the money to, as proof of payment I just printed out my account balance online where it shows that the money was taken out of my account and paid to their bank account.

And yes you will get a letter explaining this.

Hi all! My Austrian husband and I have been living in Den Haag for four years now. We were married in Connecticut in May 2009 and then "fled" to Holland because neither of our countries recognized our marriage and we had nowhere else to live together. Now that the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled marriage discrimination unconstitutional (at the federal level) we can finally apply for immigration! We mailed out the I-130 on 16 July, and received the confirmation email on 22 July 2013.

Thankfully we're not in any specific hurry, but we can't wait to get back to DC! I'm so homesick! I hope the process doesn't take longer than 6 or 7 months! I feel like I've been in exile because of who I love, and it's been killing me for so long. At least now there's hope.

Hi,

Can you tell me how you paid for the I-130 form, I understood it had to be a check from a US bank? I am American and my husband is Dutch, we've lived in Holland for 13 years but are ready to move/migrate to the US.

Thanks

I still have my U.S. bank account, and I found some old checkbook in the bottom of my junk drawer, so I was able to pay that way. I'm not sure how you could do it otherwise. I'm not sure if Dutch banks can issue U.S. money orders.

Congrats!!! So glad to see people are getting their approvals, especially more same-sex couples! - you should setup your timeline so people can see how your process has gone so far -

We got approved Oct. 1st and I waited 2 weeks to call NVC because I didn't want to get sucked into the whole calling every day and getting disappointed that they didnt have my case number yet. I called on Oct. 15 and they had my case number - apparently they received the case on Oct. 10.

Anyway - Once I got my case number, I checked online at ceac.state.gov and it said that my status was "At NVC" which meant they were processing it. By that night - Oct. 15, the status changed to In Transit and that it was on its way to the embassy. Within a couple days, It changed to Ready, which meant the embassy had processed it.

I then emailed the embassy right away asking to inquire about the status of my case and what was next.

I used this email: ImmigrantVisasAms@state.gov

They essentially sent me an email back within an hour with copy of the packet 3 letter in the email. It's basically just a link to packet 3 - everything is online now.

This was the link : http://amsterdam.usconsulate.gov/iv_k1_pkt3.html

If you need/want to know anything else - just message me on here!

I also made a simplified checklist with steps and info for my partner and I when we had just got approved which I can also send to you if you want.
