Hello everyone!

I have just received packet 3 from the Amsterdam Embassy and now while reading for the k1 interviews im getting a little nervous. My fiance is in between jobs right now (he was working up until october and should have his job back soon, hopefully). He has some savings himself (20.000) and his dad will co-sponsor for us, he has sufficient income and owns 2 houses. I also have about 12.000 in savings on my savings account and I was just wondering how the Amsterdam embassy reacts to K1 Co-sponsors.. Have there been cases where co-sponsoring was denied? I read that in some countries they dont accept co-sponsors for k1 at all.

Hello! My fiance is Dutch. :)

I am waiting on his stuff so I can file the I-129F, which should be coming any day now. One question that I have is that he would prefer to go to the embassy in Den Haag for his interview, but everything that I've seen only mentions Amsterdam. Does he have to go to Amsterdam or is Den Haag okay?

Thank you for any help/advice you can offer. :)

I think it depends on where he lives and which is closest to him. I think one of my friends' fiance went there to the Haag for his interview. :)(F) Good luck with your processing. It feels like it takes forever, but the time does pass.

I think co-sponsers are fine in the Netherlands, but you can email the Consulate to be sure. They are very quick to respond.

Thank you for your response! He lives in Rotterdam so The Hague is a bit closer to him. I just sent in our forms today. Just hoping we don't have too long of a wait.

Hello all,

My fiancee and me are American/Dutch as well.

I am the Dutchie and we are about to file our K1 visa forms. We currently live in the Netherlands but are planning om moving to the US if all goes well.

Hope the K1 process isn't going to take forever because we really want to be there. My fiancee has a hard time adjusting to the life in the Netherlands so it's time for us to do the right thing and that is moving. She has been ready for this for quite a while now and I have finally convinced myself that this is the right thing to do.

The main concern I have in the Netherlands is my pension and how to deal with it. So if anyone has experience with that please let me know.

My husband is American and just like Sealy, we live in the Netherlands, but are going to move back to the US, for the exact same reason.

We have just filled in alle the papers and are sending it to the USCIS Chicago Lockbox.

Hopefully it won't take too long...

Is the lockbox filing location different between the CR1/IR1 and the K1?

When i read the 129k information it showed a Dallas lockbox. We are about to send everything out so it would be good to know to which address.

The K1 lockbox is in Texas. From there they will forward it to the correct processing center.

It is, CR1/IR1 for the Netherlands is the Chicago Lockbox and for K1 is the Dallas Lockbox.

Good luck with everything!

Hey does anyone have some advice on how to ship personal things from the NL to the US?

Thank you in advance

We'll likely be working with a company called Crown Relocations.

They're pretty full service (pack stuff for you, unpack it later, handle all the paperwork at customs, etc.) and seem reasonably priced. They're also the one company that I contacted that called me back the same day.

However, I recommend being very critical of what you'll bring. Shipping (even in 'groupage', which is likely what you'll do, unless you have enough to fill a 20ft or 40ft container all by yourselves) is pretty expensive and to may make financial sense to bring only mementos and highly personal stuff and just buy the rest in the US.

Just to compare: we'll be shipping a maximum of 3 cubic metres of stuff, all boxed and ready. The price for that (minus possible additional cost if something gets delayed / there is a paperwork mess) is pretty close to € 2000. I've heard prices of well over € 10.000 for people who brought actual furniture, bikes and whatnot. You can buy a _lot_ of stuff for that kind of money, so unless you own high quality, inheritable or otherwise valuable things, I'd not bother bringing them.

Oh and, since you'll be providing the company with a copy of your visa (once you get it), there will be no taxes you need to pay on whatever you bring in.

I have a blog!
