Interview today / What does this MEAN?

My fiance is 30 and I am 48. He went to his interview today prepared to answer anything and everything and with tons of proof of our relationship and photos. They kept just what was necessary, it seems: Photos, the I-134, etc., the visa forms, and verified all was done correctly. They returned to him my proof of ability to support him, and kept his passport, giving him a phone number to call in 10 days to return to Algiers to retrieve his passport. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? Am I going to just have to wait a nervous wreck? They didn't say yes or no or BOO. Someone help me think positively please!!!

OK, I just called the embassy and they said the file was sent to administrative processing and when he calls in 4 or 5 days, he can have the response. Does this normally mean a yes or no? The woman said when it goes to administrative processing, it's with the department of state. I'm assuming they are just verifying the documents?

Congratulations!!!! I am sure he is getting his visa. Look up the member MHandMB and read her post about the interview. Her fiance is from Algeria and they had their interview in April I think. They had the same situation as your fiance. They did not ask any questions and at the end of the interview he was not sure if he was approved or not and had to ask them. It took about 10 days and he had his visa.

Good luck!!!!

If they said administrative processing that means more security checks - its NOT a 'no', its more checks required.

if they feel that it would take a long time to issue the visa, they wouldnt have taken his passport. algeria has had a history of internal terrorism and they are just going to screen a quick background check to make sure that he's not a known terrorist. this is usually pretty quick. about 2 weeks i'd assume

You should have asked if it was going to be granted and saved yourself all this torture....you owed it to yourself, it wouldn't have gone against you. If you are able to call for clarification that's the next bext thing. Good Luck

Hey there! Listen, my fiance went through the exact same thing 2 months ago. He went in for his interview, had all the documents, photos, etc., and they gave him everything back except some paperwork, made him pay the visa fee, and took his passport. They didn't ask him one question. They gave him a sheet with a UPS address on it in Algiers and told him that they'd call him in a week to pick up his passport at the UPS. It took 2 weeks, but sure enough, they called him to come get his passport and his visa was inside.

Did he pay the visa fee while he was there? Did they take his fingerprints? It sounds like your fiance will be getting his visa soon! If you have any questions, you could e-mail the consulate. When it took longer than the week they said it would, I sent them a short e-mail just asking if everything was ok. THey responded the next day.

Good luck, and let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks everybody for all of your positive encouragement. I'll keep you updated as soon as we know something. I'm really starting to believe we're going to be together again. It's like life stopped the day I got on the airplane and came back here and it's waiting to start again when he arrives. I'm sure you all know what I mean.

I emailed to the embassy in Algiers and got a reply first thing Saturday morning. They said they issued Farouk a visa that morning and they're sending it to UPS. We're waiting for it to be in his hands! He's not going to believe it until he actually sees it, but we're almost there!
