My sam and i have been together for a year 1/2. He is from ethiopia africa, we have just begun our process by getting all of our information together but my main worry is the money how much money a year are we supose to make to even be looked at to start the k 1 process?

That is correct for the 48 contiguous States and a little higher for Alaska and Hawaii. However, no income or financial documentation need be submitted with the initial petition. It's all done at the Consulate stage for a fiance(e). Many Consulates routinely accept co-sponsorship as well.
