I know that some are just grateful to be able to ask for a visa as a spouse

I know that fiance and spouse try to stick together

I know some would be just happy they reach goal of 6 month versus the 9-12 or more months they suffred

still, I am extremely surprised everybody accepts 6 months as a goal for a spouse

while te same center can process in 2 months for a worker

while the worker visas can be accelerated with money to a month

When family are separated, and wedding is let's say not fresh (more than 2 years in my case) I would expect a goal of 2MONTHS!!!!!

I am very disappointed here.

don't we have rights to be treated humanly?

i am curious to understand USCIS's take on this...

There's an additional twist to these thoughts I'm gonna toss in here, and it's likely to offend someone. Not trying to get anybody PO'd, but I think there is a huge political aspect to this. CSC is getting K-1's, K-3's, etc. moved through the system considerably faster than VSC. We all know this. But, my thought is that, to some degree, is by design. The Calfornia Service Center basically serves the West Coast, including California and all of those southwestern states who have been facing the wave of illegal immigration from Mexico.

If you remember, before the economic crisis, the issue of illegal immigration from Mexico rated right up there with Iraq as the top issue of discussion on the national agenda. I think this administration dumped more $$ in resources and personnel to CSC to get legal immigrants from Mexico headed to Cali, Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, etc. faster so they could help put a dent in the drive for so many from Mexico to come across the border illegally.

I just find it hard to believe that these two centers have equal resources and staff; CSC and VSC covers a similar population base of States in the US - if both centers were equally staffed and funded, it would defy almost every convention of logic to explain why identical applications take almost twice as long to get processed at VSC as they do at CSC.

Ok, I'm prepped for the haters now. Let me have it. But hopefully, I make a couple of people wonder about it. I know I sure have, after over 7 and a half months of waiting.

ur post does make a lot of sense. i am not sure about the illegal immigration from Mexico as i do not have much knowledge about that subject so i would rather not comment on that. but regarding your comment about equal population being handled by both the service centers. that does make me wonder...very well thought and said!

That would make sense, but unfortunately, Texas, New Mexico, Florida, and New York are all covered by VSC which I'm sure all have pretty sizeable immigrant populations I wish I had a better theory, but I don't

The processing times swing back and forth, from VSC being blazingly fast and CSC slow, to CSC currently being the "fast" one. This is normal, and happens all the time.

Earlier this year, everything -- and I mean everything -- at VSC stopped while naturalization applications took priority. It still hasn't really recovered from that as far as I can tell.

I expected my K-1 visa (before I did research about it) would take at least 6 months to a year, and assumed (again, before I did research) that it would take me twice as long to go for a spousal visa. For me, it didn't take nearly as long, so I was pleasantly surprised. Different set of expectations than the OP I guess. I didn't consider my visa as a "right" but as a privilege, but that's just me. And if that puts me in the "haters" category.....oh well.

I thought Texas petitions were getting moved to CSC. I know that several months ago the apps that were sent to the old TSC got moved to VSC (that happened to my I-130, it was originally sent to TSC), but it was my understanding that the Texas applicants were ultimately going to get routed to CSC.

good points.

Not sure. I live in Texas and I had to file with VSC. One thing that comes to my mind is staffing. L.A. (CSC) is the second largest metropolitan area in the U.S. Burlington, VT (VSC) isn't even in the top 250. Kinda hard to hire people where no one lives.

daboyz, thats funny. I was just talking to my husband (over skype, ofc, what did u think?and with the 7 hours difference) about this. about how Vermont is tiny, has like 650.000 ppl living there, at least half in school or old, then the housewives, the residents who are not citizens, and so on, not many there who can be hired at VSC. he said to place the center there was probably some favor for a senator or something, to create jobs. and I think it might be right. but really, affects us, and is us who create their jobs in fact, no? no immigration, no centers, I'd say. no fees, no employes. I am being mean, maybe? I was much nicer before this process,

No one's calling anyone with a different story a "hater", I think people are taking what was meant to be a bit of a light-hearted term a little too seriously. I think that's great you had very conservative expectations. And, yes, a visa is a right, not a privelege, but a system that tells its petitioners one thing and actually does something much different is one in need of some serious upgrades. The inability of anyone waiting in the system to have any idea of where their application is in the process, whether it's in the hands of an officer, or #412,998 out of a stack of 413,000 is a little out of step with a country that prides itself on being a nation of immigrants. And, for we US citizens who give this government an extraordinary amount of our $$ to provide us basic services, getting a straight answer on our spouses/fiances petitions in a timely manner, whether we like the answer or not, is something that I do not believe should require an overhaul of our national budget or a restructuring of DHS.

It is not about whether the visa itself is a privelege or not, of course it is, but there is much to be said for getting timely and honest information about the process.
