we are expecting our NOA2 sometime in january.

(hopefully this will go smoothly as neither of us have a job. i am disabled and he was recently laid off {damn crappy economy} but if not- my parents have said they will sign the affadavit of support, so i don't think that will be a problem).

my fiancee lives in ontario so i believe our interview will take place in montreal. great city. i love poutine etc ;) my question is, would it make a difference to the interviewer if we were both there? i'd love to come along to see my fiancee and support him/us!

AOS

05.17.10 - I-485/I-765 mailed

05.25.10 - NoA

06.25.10 - biometrics appt

07.02.10 - emailed that our case is moved to CSC!

07.14.10 - touched

07.21.10 - touched

08.03.10 - approved for EAD

08.05.10 - uscis mailed out EAD

08.09.10 - EAD received!

01.05.11 - a ###### RFE over 6 ###### months after the fact

02.01.11 - touched

02.14.11 - APPROVED (finally)!

02.25.11 - received green card in the mail

I'm not too sure about the montreal consulate, however I know some consulates don't even allow the petitioner to attend. I have heard of it helping if the petitioner attends, and I have also heard that sometimes the petitioner is interviewed separately.

Good luck.

Easiest way is to call the consulate and ask (or email them, if they answer emails). We managed to get a reply from the Embassy in Croatia - here, the petitioner can come with the beneficiary, but (just like it happened with our B2) the interview is for the beneficiary, they say, and the USC can ask questions or have a say once they're done.

I went to US Embassy in Philippines with my fiance for the interview.

I was able to go into the CO office for the interview and was asked a couple of basic questions as well.

In PI, it's up to the CO if the beneficiary can go into interview room, I talked to another American at the interview (K-3) and he was not allowed to go into CO room for interview.

I personally don't think it matters if you attend or not, and I don't see how my showing up for the interview helped in any way.

The Montreal Consulate allows fiances to come to the interview. For many people having them there for the moral support is worth it. I had my interview in Vancouver, and my fiance was going to come, then we decided he'd come the following month for Christmas instead. To each his own! If you're not employed right now, and if you have the money, come on up to the interview, and enjoy the city for a few days. Montreal is awesome! Of course you know the food is great! ;)

In Canada, it neither helps nor hurts at the interview for your fiance to be there. Just remember, for most people, the actual interview is about 5 minutes!

Its not required that you attend the interview. Only U.S citizens are allowed into the consulate, and since the interview is about HIM there isn't much for you to do but wait.. Make sure though that he has all receipts of payments to NVC. When I went for my interview a couple hadn't brought all their receipts and their I-129f showed a non-payment. I don't know what happened with their case, cause as soon as I was approved I was out of there.

Hope this helps

Listen to the posters who have had recent experience with the Montreal consulate.

General soapbox: Many posters on VJ actually or seemingly recommend -- as blanket advice, regardless of consulate -- that it's not necessary for the U.S. partner to attend the interview. Even though those posters may be right, be prepared for those posters to be wrong. My own default recommendation is for the U.S. citizen to plan to be (at least) on the consular premises during your partner's interview, whether you're allowed in the interview itself or not. The only exception might be very low-fraud consulates/embassies where multiple posters who have recently interviewed there, or who otherwise have a pattern of knowledge, can all attest that there were no problems whatsoever.

If somebody else here had a fiance(e) who interviewed alone and was granted a visa after a 4-minute perfunctory interview, congratulations. However, it's imprudent to expect (or to imply!) that this will automatically happen with everyone else.

Absolutely- take your mate if you want to the montreal interview! Just be advised- make sure you have ALLLLL the necessary stuff with you - my love and I had an interview with a woman that was very, very picky with seemingly silly details...........and we had to re do the medical and some other paperwork and finally got the VISA after 3.5 weeks and $600.00!!!

There is no earthly reason why you shouldn't be there in Montreal. If nothing else, it would provide evidence of a serious commitment to one another. Montreal IS a wonderful city.

Are you referring to my advice? Whether it be Montreal or Vancouver, 99.9% of the people interviewed have been there for VERY little time. I AM a Canadian, and post often to the Canada forum, and have been here for 2 years on VJ. Of course it won't automatically happen, but it is reassuring for people to know that Canada's Consulate is NOT like every other Consulate. I added my own personal experience to help bolster my assertion that it doesn't matter whether your partner is there at the inteview or not.
