Hey all you Canucks out there!

Need your help. I am living in the US right now on a K3 visa. I am due to go to montreal for my IR/CR permanent resident interview in August. However I need a Canadian police check done. I was not planning on going back to Canada until my interview.

Anyone have an idea of how I can get a Canadian police background check from the US? Do not need a finger print based one, just name and birhtdate.

Thanks for the help,

Calibound

Congratulations on getting an interview in August!

Check out this link:

http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/crimrec/finger_e.htm

Click on "How to Obtain Certified Criminal Record Check". There's a section there that talks about obtaining the certificate when not in Canada.

By the way, when did you complete your case at NVC?

Good luck! :star:

Just thought I'd add... since you would just need a name (and birthdate) check, you could probably apply for the police certificate when in Montreal. I went to the RCMP in Montreal to apply for one and it took only 5 minutes. Waiting for my number to be called took almost an hour.

If you decide to apply for the police certificate a day or two before your interview, you'll have to get there early because they are only open from 8-11AM, and then something like 1-4PM. And if they run out of numbers in the morning (or if it's really busy), you'll have to come back in the afternoon. And if they run out of numbers in the afternoon, you may have to come back the next day. Of course this will only happen if they are busy that day. When I was there it was fine but a woman told me she it was her second day there because she arrived too late the day before.

But then again, maybe you shouldn't risk applying for a police certificate too close to the interview day.
