I'm confused about filing the I-134 Affidavit of support...

Hey!

My husband and I finally received the approval notice for his I-129F. They forwarded it to the U.S. Embassy in his country of Ireland. The U.S. Embassy in Ireland then forwarded my husband a packet of papers that he needs to complete on his side. Such as police certs, medical, evidence, etc. They also sent him an I-134 Affidavit of support. I called the NVC operator assistance number (1-603-334-0700) and gave the operator who picked up my call the case number. She said that I have to fill out the I-134 on my husband's behalf. We get that. I asked her why they sent it to him in Ireland instead of sending it to me, in the U.S. She got a little snarky and said that maybe he'd have to email it or fax it or just mail it to me. OK. No problem. I'll fill it out (my husband faxed it to me already). My question is, do I fill it out and get it notarized and then MAIL it to where ever? Or do fill it out, get it notarized, and then mail it to my husband to bring with him to his interview?

And my last question: I do not meet the poverty guidelines to be my husband's sponsor. My mother has agreed to be a co-sponsor. Does that mean that both she and I need to fill out separate I-134 forms and get them both notarized, and then mail them both to my husband or where ever?

Also, do we send in originals for the proof of employment and what not, or can we send in copies of the originals?

Thank you to those of you who take the time to read this mess and hopefully help me out with a few answers!

You said husband and I-129F together....are you filling for fiance visa or spouse/marriage visa? It looks to me you have applied for fiance visa. If you have applied for fiance visa, then don't panic, as part of the package, U.S. embassy will send I-134 form to your husband in Ireland. But your husband don't fill it out, you do. You fill it out, notarized it and send that to you husband and your husband will take that with him on the interview.

I am actually not sure on the co-applicant. There are forums on co-applicant I am sure if you look around. If i find somthing, I will point that out to you :)

For the proof of employment, I am sending copies of my paycheck stubs and bank statements showing the deposit of paychecks and again, I am not 100% sure if the original are required. I'd say if you can get hold of originals then definitely send those, if not then your last option is to send copies. Employment verification letter is another evidence to show your employment, if you can get it, send that as well to your husband. Everything needs to go to your husband at this point.

You are almost there, you should be excited :)

I am at the same stage as you :)

Thank you so much! You are a live saver! I went to the USCIS today to ask the same question that I posted, and the guy had no idea! So I called the NVC hotline they gave me in a packet and the girl said to call USCIS! But you cleared everything up for me! Thank you so so so much!

I'm doing the spouse/marriage visa. The instructions in the I-129F said you could use it for that purpose. I hope I did the right thing! At this point, I really wish I could afford to hire a lawyer!

K3 visas for a spouse also use the I-129F.

I-134 from each sponsor AND all supporting documentation from each.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
