hello, everyone...I was wondering is it better to ask for a police certificate prior to getting your NOA2??? I"m only asking because...my fiance is from Sri Lanka which currently they have a civil war going on...and I am assuming it will take couple of months from there. Seeing or at least hoping i would get a NOA2 by January is it a good idea to call up and ask for one? Plus, my fiance is actually in the UK for past 5 years, so does he have to go to Sri Lanka to get a police certificate?? Thanks a bunch...

Hope all of you are still hanging in there...the year is coming to an end :o) yeahhhh..getting closer to our NOA2's!!!

take care

It looks like you will need the consulate in London to help you..... They may not be interested in helping you until they have a case file... In addition, you may also check with the Sri Lanka embassy in the UK too..

Police Records

Available, upon request by the United States Embassy in Colombo. Sri Lanka nationals over the age of 16 must provide the Embassy with their national identity card (NIC) number, date and place of birth, and last residential address in Sri Lanka. Non-Sri Lanka nationals must provide the Embassy with passport identification and Sri Lanka residence visa information. The Embassy will provide a letter summarizing the finding of the police record check. There is no fee for this service. Processing time is approximately six weeks.

Someone had told me that it takes up to 3 months :o( is that true? Do we have to physically go there to obtain the certificate? especially when you are a student visa??
