Has anyone ever written an invitation letter for your fiance's mother to come to the US so she can be at the wedding? I wrote one last night, and I wasnt really sure what to include in the letter. Mine is about a page long, just wondering if I should shorten it up?

Does she have good chances to come to US for the wedding??

Thanks

Both my wife's mother and brother were able to come and got their visas without issue. Basically the invitation said I would be responsible for them and that they full intended to return to Russia. My letter was about 1 page long. I would just include where they will stay, when the wedding is, and when they plan on returning to Russia. I believe you do not have to have an invitation, but I do not think it would hurt. The big thing as always is to prove that they have good reasons to return to Russia.

While it does not hurt to write one, an invitation letter by a USC is apparently not given much weight as the visa applicant needs to overcome the presumption of "intent to immigrate" on there own accord... Concentrate more on the "ties to country" evidence that is paramount in any tourist visa application.

I think you need to review the process for tourist visas. Letters of invitation are neither required, nor have any effect on the decision process. The burden is completely on the applicant to convince the consulate that they do not intend to immigrate. Your letter will not assist in this regard.

That said - I did have my in laws come for a visit about a year after we were married. No problem.

PEOPLE: READ THE APPLICATION FORM INSTRUCTIONS!!!! They have a lot of good information in them! Most of the questions I see on VJ are clearly addressed by the form instructions. Give them a read!! If you are unable to understand the form instructions, I highly recommend hiring someone who does to help you with the process. Our process, from K-1 to Citizenship and U.S. Passport is completed. Good luck with your process.

I'm invetigating bringing Natalia's mother over for Christmas, and have found this to consider as guidance: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...00045f3d6a1RCRD

I'm still researching what we need to do from this end to give her what she needs to facilitate the tourist visa as quickly as possible. If anybody can shorten the learning curve by pointing me to other good stuff, please do so. I appreciate your help in advance.

We'd love to bring much of Natasha's family over at some point, but we've (wrongly?) given in to the fact that they will likely have to visit in waves (her Dad was injured in an on the job accident a little over a year ago, and though he has recently gone back to work it is at a substantially reduced wage).

Welcome back, Allen, long time no see!

Plain and simple, it's their responsibility to apply at their nearest consulate. That said, it's possible for you to do everything for them and then have them submit it themselves. I had my sister-in-law come visit and I filled out every single piece of her paperwork and all she had to do was sign and then pay the $100. (Not sure if it's still $100 or not.....) I filled out the DS-156, G-325A, I-130, etc. assembled it all into a package, and then shipped it to her Global Priority (or whatever it is through USPS) and all she had to do was sign and submit.

I even put little sticky notes with a "sign here" on them where she needed to sign.

We stuck to a plan of "she's coming here for two weeks and then returning to her studies" and I typed that theme throughout. You can legally do all the paperwork as long as you fill out the portion that says "completed by." Frankly, I believe that's what really solidifies their chances of getting a visa becuase, in effect, it's you requesting a visa for them instead of them petitioning the govt. for one on their own. But, that's just my theory, not a science!

Good luck, keep us posted on how it goes for you and to really make it easy, just follow the B visa guides here. I googled some stuff and ended up with help from an Indian site. It was really good too with step-by-step instructions.

Make sure you stop back by and let us know how it goes. And don't be a stranger anymore!
