I-751: Telephone Number Change....

Hi Everyone,

I am thinking about changing my telephone number, due to the constant harassment that I've been getting from the former ex-family and ex-friends in Canada and from telemarketers here in the USA.

:help: What a nightmare!!

Lol...I wish I could just get rid of the telephone completely, as we hardly even use the phone in the first place. But then again, because of the "in case of emergencies situations" and because of my MIL's medical situation, I cannot do such.

Therefore, I have to resort to changing my telephone number.....

However, if I do change my telephone number while my I-751 is pending, do I have to report such to the USCIS? If so, what forms (if any) and/or actions do I have to take to report such? And if I don't report such, will I get in trouble for it?

Any thoughts, ideas, suggestions, etc. is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Ant (Still waiting at the VSC...)

I called USCIS to change my number, they told me that they were going to send me some confirmation. Well see. I hope they don't mess up my address, cause they asked for that as well.

You can also register your new number with the "Do Not Call Registry". It won't block the harassment from individuals but it will stop the telemarketers. If they continue to call you, you can report them and it does seem to work. Here is the site:

https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Hi Everyone,

Thank you for your helpful and quick replies in regards to my situation. Listed below are my responses to your replies:

Lissa=Did you call the USCIS’ 1-800# to tell them about the telephone change? When you called them, did you have any problems? Did you have to speak to a live operator when you made the change? Did you have to fill out any other forms when you made the change? Lol…I remember the last time I called them, I was put on hold for an hour, so I don’t look forward to calling them if I do change my telephone number. I guess since you got the confirmation letter, they didn’t mess with your address after all. By the way, how long did it take time-wise from when you notified them of the change to when you got your confirmation letter? If you don’t mind me asking too, why did you change your telephone number, but not your address?

Kathryn=Thanks for the link to the “Do not call registry†website. I did read about that before (it was on last month’s phone bill actually), and I did put our unlisted phone number (if it’s unlisted, then how did they get our number in the first place, I wonder) on the registry about 2 weeks ago. It will probably take another 2 weeks for it to kick in, as it says it takes up to 30 days for it to work. So we’ll see what happens later on about that for us and whether or not it really does work. More likely than not, by being on this registry, it will help with decreasing the calls from the telemarketers. But as for the other annoying Canadian phone calls we’ve been getting, I wish there was a “ex-family/ex-friends registry†for that too…lol…

Boaz=Glad you had no problems when you had to report your change of phone number for your husband’s K1. Did you just call the USCIS’ 1-800# to make the change? Did you have to fill out any other forms when you made the change? By the way, how long did it take time-wise from when you notified them of the change to when you got your confirmation letter?

Again, thanks for all your helpful replies. And good luck on your I-751 journeys too…
