Hi all - I am going to have to travel back to Canada at Christmas because of an ailing family member. I have my NOA1 and have already gone for a biometrics appt. Do I just carry the NOA1 with me in my pocket? We will be driving so I don't expect any problems leaving, but they will probably be a pain when I return. Any ideas how I can make it easier? Or am I mistaken in thinking that since it says on the letter that I can travel, they don't mean out of the country?

Don't worry. There will no pain when you return. You just need to carry your expired green card and NOA with your passport. I went to Canada two weeks ago with my expired green card and NOA , didn't have any problem when i returned to US

Yes, you can travel to Canada with the expired greencard and the NOA extending its validity for one year. No problems. Just declare yourself as a Canadian citizens with permanent resident status in the US to the US border official on your return.
