Most places in Ontario growing up had clear cream soda. We used to sell it in the 80's from Beckers (convience store chain) under several brand names. In fact the clear stuff was more avaliable then the pink stuff.

Personally I only drink the clear cream soda (when I drink soda that is) as I can't stand the pink. I've actually got the Jones ones before, but found them too sweet. I did find cans though once in the grocery store that pretty much tasted like the real thing (maybe it wan can Jones). I'll have to take a look again, as it sounds good...

There is a great Mexican soda called Jarritos that is very good. I don't know its availability outside the southwestern portion of the U.S. though.

They are naturally flavored and have less carbonation, and for all you conspiracy theorists... NO HFCS

I remember beckers! But I don't remember clear cream soda perhaps it was well before my time. :(

Speaking of cream soda, I just bought some Olde Philadelphia Cream Soda and it isn't good at all. :(

ETA: Oh I just read the ingredients... its sweetened with Splenda that's why.

Hey xtinab....I read the article and one thing that really struck me was how it was called "Sweet Surprise" which is also the name of the advertising campaign on tv for the corn growers association. It makes me wonder who pays for a "study" that leads to an article like that. Maybe I'm jaded and cynical but I believe results can be bought. I mean, there's got to be a reason that HFCS is banned in Canada? Do they know something that the people in the US don't? I would like to believe so. I'm not saying that I couldn't be wrong, but that's just my opinion!

Ateam, I totally agree about results being bought. I'm not sold on the HFCS either. I never knew it was banned in Canada, then again, I didn't know much about it all. I was rarely even aware!

Yeah, we weren't really aware because they weren't allowed to use it in Canada at all. I've noticed a difference between products made by the same company for Canada and the US. Most of the time it's because of the HFCS.

I grew up in Ontario my entire life, I'm 41 years old, and Cream Soda to me has always been red/pink. We called it Red Pop when I was a kid. I don't think I've ever seen clear cream soda, at Becker's or any other store.

As to the HFCS argument/article, sugar is sugar. See the one posted by Emancipation. I will attest to sugar withdrawl symptoms! When I started doing Atkins and went cold turkey off of sugar, I had about 3 days of withdrawl. Others have complained of withdrawl symptoms for up to 2 weeks! (depends on how much sugar you used to eat in a day). And if you learn to read food labels, sugar is not just listed as sugar, but as 4 or 5 other things as well, all just in one product! There is so much hidden sugar in our diets that most of us have no clue what we're eating anymore.

Now that I'm off all sugars (except the naturally occuring in foods), and the withdrawl is gone, I don't even miss it. It would be nice though if people would stop trying to stuff cookies and cakes in my face, with the "aw c'mon its The Holidays!" :P No thank you. I'd rather have broccoli :D

divorced - April 2010 moved back to Ontario May 2010 and surrendered green card

PLEASE DO NOT PRIVATE MESSAGE ME OR EMAIL ME. I HAVE NO IDEA ABOUT CURRENT US IMMIGRATION PROCEDURES!!!!!

Speaking of Cream Soda color, A&W came out for a time with this cream colored Cream Soda which was just nasty. It wasn't clear, it wasn't red, it was like a beige cream one.

Along the same line, they don't have Mr. Freezies here under that name, but there are other brand names like Otter Pops that are the same thing. The only difference in the US is they do not have the white cream soda ones, unlike Canada where they're everywhere (and my favorite)...
