We've had several threads here in the Canada forums about HFCS, lists upon lists of foods containing HFCS and how to avoid them.

My parents have been bringing down/sending many different products from home because I simply cannot stand the taste of half the ####### down here.

Cereal, bread, pop, juice, jam, granola bars, soup, pickles..it's in EVERYTHING!!!! Blah. Even most of the chocolate tastes so gross.

I had my friend bring me so much stuff when she visited...tons of good old CANADIAN campbell's tomato soup, bread and butter pickles, granola bars, cereal...etc. etc.

Even the toothpaste down here has it and tastes like poop.

I'll be stocking up when I visit, that's for sure!

This is just a side note...I miss marble cheese so much...they don't have it here in Jersey for some odd reason...

They have this weird Monterey Jack/Cheddar mix but it tastes NOTHING like good old kraft marble cheese from back home. I'll be bringing some with me when I visit after Christmas.

Marble cheese?

Is it Colby-Jack?

I always brought back as much as I could hide when returning from my trips to Canada. The food there just tasted so much better. At the time I didn't know why that was, but it was obvious that there was something different. Of course, I usually brought back a few cartons of Player's Lights (or ExportA lights), too....

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

I'm not a big soft drink person, but I always enjoyed a coke here and there until I went to school in the USA and totally lost my taste for it. I thought it was just me until a friend recently came to visit me in Canada and said, "I have to have a Coke while I'm here!" I asked why and he told me that it tastes better in Canada because we use sugar where in the USA they replace much of the sugar with high-fructose corn syrup! This is because the USA has tariffs on sugar which make it too expensive to produce soft drinks with so much sugar.

Apparently this is the case with many products including ketchup! Who knew? Just thought I'd share because there are probably a few people who find thing taste just a little different in the USA. Next time check the label... maybe it is the corn syrup!

Yep! coke tastes better almost everywhere else lol

I told my husband the same thing when I was in Jordan... hee

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand

If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.

Thanks!

Nope, not Colby Jack....Bought some with wishful thinking but I was very disappointed.

It's different in Canada...white and yellow cheese curds, it's milder and just tastes...better.

I miss it bad.

The kids and I miss marble cheese too Laura, they also dont like the lunch meat here either.

We are not big pop drinkers but I am addicted to kool-aid hehe good old sugar is what i add. I do try to avoid the HFCS but its so hard. We do tend to notice if something has that ####### in it kinda ruins it for us. I have a list for my mom to bring us our goodies and a bigger list for when we go back.

HFCS is the bane of my existence. I can't drink my favourite Ocean Spray juice because there's too much added ####### to it, and if I want it "lite" -- well, shall I have chemical sweetener with my 100% juice?????? Blah! The damn stuff is in everything and it drives me nuts.

Ocean Spray is now HFCS free. Check the front label.

Yeah, but have they put in something else in its place??? yeah, I'm skeptical. I'll have to check it out when I go grocery shopping this afternoon.

It takes me forever to go grocery shopping because I'm always reading the labels. One thing that has disappointed me is yogurt because most brands have HFCS in it. I didn't know how much it was bothering me until I found some Liberte yogurt in Wegman's. I literally teared up when I saw it. Oh yogurt, how I have missed thee! (L) I felt like kissing it right then and there, but I waited until I got home.

Acme is coming out with a line of organic things and the ingredients are generally pretty good e.g. their organic ketchup doesn't have HFCS. However, I very much prefer Wegman's to Acme. Sometimes it's cheaper too! I still haven't found my way to a Trader Joe's or a Whole Foods yet. Some day!

I ate activia yoghurt in Canada and eat it here too, no HFC's and it tastes the same to me

Activia is great here....that's what we eat too.

Ketchup, I have enough of Canadian Ketchup for a year...my best friend Kristie made me a ketchup gift basket before I moved....I'm set with ketchup!
