Registering foreign residency in Ukraine

Hello everyone, especially you Ukrainians out there,

Yesterday, I successfully filed my I-130 petition directly to the consulate in Kyiv (thanks to all those who have participated on these boards... there is so much information on here that I didn't even have to post any questions. Its all here!).

Today my wife was told by someone, who is apparently going through the immigration process, that she needed to "register her permanent residency" somehow with the Ukrainian government. Without registering, this person seemed to think that she would encounter some sort of problems along the way. No specifics were given, and this wasn't an official that was giving information... but someone else who was going through the same process.

I have never heard of this before. Has anyone actually done this or even heard of such a thing?

Thanks again for everything,

James

FWIW, my wife has done nothing of the sort... Even if there was, there is nothing to register until she actually emigrates from Ukraine... So there really is no way for it to be a "problem along the way".....

YMMV

I guess this guy was just being a jerk... I've read all the requirements from the US side and there is nothing of the sort. I guess by "along the way" he meant while actually leaving Ukraine.

I don't know... just thought I'd check. Better safe than sorry.

Nada.... She has been back to visit and all... nada

My understanding is that there was an "exit" visa or exit registration at one time... it may still exist but it appears to be overlooked
