Hi guys and gals,

Can someone please tell me if a green card holder (who has travelled abroad twice on Advance Parole in excess of one year) can apply for Advance Parole the third time? Is there a law that prohibits permanent residents to apply for advance parole the third time in case he/she has to stay abroad for more than 6 months or so? Thanks.

matrix,

An LPR has no need for advance parole (and consequently does not qualify for it).

Might need a re-entry permit if expecting to be outside the US for between 1 and 2 years (or if planning to be away for close to a year and wants to be prepared should something delay the anticipated return).

But, I've heard that USCIS could object the third time if someone with green card who has gone in the past outside USA for 2 years twice with parole. A permanent resident is required to obtain a permission to re-enter USA if he/she plans to stay outside USA for a year or two years.

Its not called Advance Parole, re read Yodrak's post.

Where did you hear it from?

The important issue is maintaining residence no matter how long you go for.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”
