July Filer at VSC still no appointment date

Hello,

I know that it has been said many times to patiently wait... but I'm just getting a little paranoid. I have seen a lot of July filers that has already been notified for interviews, some even had an oath ceremony date.

This is my case, I filed at VSC in the first week of July 2008 and it was received in the same week. In September, I got a notice from USCIS for my fingerprinting appointment. I live in Virginia but I was asked to go to Charlotte, NC for my fingerprinting. Fingerprinting went fine on September 12. Till now, I havent gotten any notification from USCIS for my interview appointment, it has been one and a half month since FP.

I have some worries in my head. Our local mailman is a very nice guy but sometimes he delivers letters to our mailbox that are not intended for us. So what we do, we just return the mail to the mailbox so he could pick it up again the next day. What he does with those letters, whether he returns them to sender or delivers them to the right recipient, that we dont know. And my worry has gotten worse over a few days after learning from my bank that my debit card which I was unaware existed, was sent to me by the bank and for unknown reasons, the mail containing the debitcard was returned to the bank (thank God it didnt get lost!) My husband has his debit card for this joint account but since I have another existing account which I use, I didnt bother to check if the bank sent me a debit card for that joint account, what I do is just transfer fund online to my other account if I needed money from our joint account.

Now, my question is, is there any way I could verify with the USCIS if an appointment letter has already been sent to me? Because I might be waiting for that NOA not knowing it has been delivered to the wrong recipient or was returned to USCIS. I know that my application for naturalization will be considered abandoned if I dont show up for the interview, whether I got the appointment letter or not.

Last question, is the local office where you were fingerprinted going to be the one to process your N400 application?

I know, some of you might say it has just been one and a half month since FP so I dont need to worry too soon. I just cant help it. Seeing these other July filers from VSC already having appointment dates and some have already been interviewed and our mailman not being 100% efficient make me worried.

Thanks.

Hey Sak,

I feel the same way you do. In my case it's been 2 months since my FP have been done. I to think about the fact that what if the postman misplaced my mail? There's always that possibility. I reached out to my senators office and I am waiting to hear back from them. I am hoping that I maybe able to find something out this coming week. I called the USCIS but they ofcourse have no knowledge about what is going on, accept what shows up on their screen.

I wish you luck and keep us informed if you hear anything.

1) You can call USCIS and bug them to find the info. Then you may find the info you want. Sometimes they don't check the info in details, so you may get general answer, "we don't have anything for you yet". But some cases you may get transfered to interview officer to get detailed answer.

2) The place you went for Fingerprint is Application Support Center. It is not same as District Office. In some cases, it may be located in same building. In most case, it will be same, but in some cases, it may be different. Since you were sent to different state, you may be assigned to different location for District Office to process your case.

3) For lost mail, there is not much you can do except to open mail box, and change mailing address to mail box. Or change mailing address to your office address if it is more reliable.

At this moment, most holding point between fingerprint and interview is FBI namecheck process. I believe USCIS implemented the policy to schedule interview after they receive the clearance from FBI namecheck.

Unfortunately, when you get your interview depends on your district office - yours is Charlotte, it is one of the slowest in the country (plus they were just recently in the process of moving and this has been slowing down the process). I suggest finding people on this forum from your DO, and this would give you a better idea as to when you can expect to get your interview letter.

I live in Indiana, right on the border with Louisville, KY. I was sent to Louisville for my biometrics but they specifically told me that I would have to go to Indianapolis for my interview, as it is done by State in which you live. You will probably have to go to whichever is the District Office for Virginia.

It is a pain in the neck for me to drive 2 hours to Indy when I actually work in Louisville! Oh well, can't win them all.

I went through VSC. Submitted at end of MAY, Biometrics end of June (reschedule for mid July) Interview was Oct 15. So I think ur fine if u just had ur Biometrics mid Sept. By now you should know that not everything goes as planned or in order, lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Thanks everyone. Flames9, you're right, not everything goes as planned. I just couldnt help but get worried sometimes knowing that there is a probability that we were losing some of our mails in the past.

Anyway, KyngSilva, I noticed in your timeline, you specified that your interview date is already set in 2009? I'm just wondering how did you know your interview date when you said in your response to my post that you are still waiting to hear from your senator's office? Sorry, I'm just a little bit confused on that.

Another question, have you guys received any emails from CRIS (USCIS) stating that NOA for biometrics or interview appointment has been sent to you or something like that (assuming that you registered your N400 case number in their website and flagged it for email alerts)? I'm just asking because in the past, with my CR1, I used to get emails on the updates on my case. But with N400, all I received so far was an email confirming that they received my application in July. After that, no more... even for my biometric appointment letter, I didnt get any email for that. If only USCIS will be consistent in sending email alerts for every NOA, then we will know that a letter or NOA is expected to arrive soon. If it didnt arrive in the mail, then we know that it went missing, right? I just wonder if any of you received any emails confirming that your biometric appointment or interview appointment letter has been sent.

Thanks everyone.

I registered my file on USCIS BUT only got the 1 update, and it was way back in JUNE!! It still states june, lol Its the message that states that they recieved my case. No further updates. Its happens to many, some don't even get that

If you do ur interview at the Fairfax VA location, they do the interview and oath the VERY SAME day for 99% of cases

Call USCIS and tell them you want to get status on your application.Did u check the status online ,mine never showed up online so Customer service used to transfer me to officers.officers can tell you if the letter is on its way or pending FBI name check.Try this menu options to talk to live agent 1-2-Receipt #-1-3-1.

Mine was pending almost 1.5 months even after the name chk cleared becuase of tight interview scheduling. It was received on March 17th.MY other four family members filed end of march. Our FP were just 1 week part.3 members had interview July 29th,I had on Oct 16th and my brother on Dec 9th.So you can imagine now.

Sak

I put that date based on the information that was sent on my NOA. It said 228 days till interview. I just roughly calculated the days.

I called the USCIS today as I was extremely bored after spending my entire morning writing a research paper, plus I wanted to make best use of the $675 I paid them. I started asking questions like

What happens if the postman loses my interviewletter, will my application be considered abandoned?

How do I know what my status is if the only status is not updated

The lady stated that I should go make an infopass appointment if I want to know what's going on with my application and they would be able to let me know where my application process is. She told me to call again if I have any questions and I told her that I would :D .

The senators office replied back to me today. They said they recieved my authorization form and will be in touch with me shortly. Who knows what shortly will be, so I'll wait to make an infopass appointment.

Cheers

Thanks everyone!

atk_721, I tried calling USCIS yesterday but I wasnt able to talk to an agent. I entered my case number then chose the option which tells you the update on your case, but it was an automated message. I dont remember what the option 1-3-1 does but I might try that tomorrow.

KyngSilva, how did you get to talk to a USCIS agent? what number did you call? which option did you choose? And what did she say when you asked what will happen if the NOA for interview got lost on the way? I wonder if our senators here in VA would have time for little folks like me, I havent tried anything like that. Do you know your senator personally or does somebody you know has a connection to the senator?

I used option 2 and then chose the one that says I don't know what my reciept number is. She told me to go make an appointment with the local office as she could not answer that question or any of my questions for that matter.

No I don't know my senator personally. I just called their office and explained my case and stated I needed somebody to follow up on it and figure out what's going on. She stated she would fax me a form for authorization and would get back to me once they hear something. Every senators office has an office that deals with situations like ours. Yes they need to have time for little people like you if they value your vote :D Trust me they value your vote. You have 2 senators so call either one. Let us know what happens.
