Hey VJ...

My Canadian Passport is still valid for 3years, i was wondering when that expires can i use my green card to apply for a US passport? thanks

No, you have to be a USC to have a US passport.

Immigration Process (DCF Japan)

You will have to renew your Canadian Passport. That is correct....you have to be a USC to get a US passport.

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

Certainly a motivation to get your USC if you plan on living here, living here with a green card is rather restrictive, especially when you are required to maintain a passport from your country of origin. And that county of origin may be reluctant to issue you a passport especially if you are planning on living here.

Lawful permanent resident status was not part of the original immigration act, was added, and you are not really here, more like half here. Most recent addition beside LPR is conditional permanent residence, that was in 1988 giving more reason for people in this topic to say, I am glad it's over.
