I am new at this...Am planning to marry a man from Algeria. I know some things that needs to get done before he comes to the USA. First of all I know we have to meet in person, (which we have not done). We are planning to get married when I get there and I need certified copies of birth certificates translated into French. (he speaks french, I do not, he is learning English I am learning french). I need advice, from all. Any thing would be helpful. :help:

You need a whole lot of advice cause if you marry him when you get to Algeria, you can no longer file the K-1, which is a fiance visa. He HAS to be your fiance when he arrives in the US.

If marrying him in Algeria is what you plan, you need to look into the K-3 or CR-1 visa which will be for married couples.

Check the guides at the top of this page and then ask questions if confused.

Good luck to you.

I agree, it seems you are a bit confused (since this is a confusing process!). My advice would be to read the guides for K1, K3 and CR1, read the documents required for filing (ie I129f for K1) wait a day, re-read it all again and again until you really get a feel for it and then come back and ask for whatever clarification you need. For me, I spent several months reading and re-reading before we filed anything. As much of a hurry as we all are to be with our loved one, this is one process where taking the extra few days to cross all the t's and dot all the i's is the best plan. Good luck!

Definately no quick easy way to do it. But you can do this.

Good advice on the reading and digesting the info.

Thanks :) So many problems on here are easily prevented by reading everything 99 times, thoroughly understanding it and clarifying anything you aren't 100% sure on. I'd rather spend 1-2 months going through everything (not just on VJ, but read all the information pages on the USCIS website) than file immediately and make a huge mistake (like getting married while waiting for a K1 to be approved!)
