Digital Watches at Interview

I have my interview on Monday at 8.00am. I know that I can't take my mobile to the interview but for those that have had interviews recently were you allowed to wear your digital/electronic watches at the embassy or do these also have to be put in left luggage somewhere?

On the embassy website it just says 'Please also do not bring mobile phones or any other electronic devices, such as Blackberries, iPods, PDAs or remote-entry automobile key "fobs" to the interview as they are not allowed within the Embassy..' So not sure about watches unless it counts as an electronic item. Have you an analogue watch you can wear instead just in case they take it off you?

i would agree with the first responce to your thread, if your not allowed electronic car keys, i would expect it to cover all electronic equipment.

so i am wearing my analogue watch instead.

Analog watches are the last devices not to be banned in any US Embassy. I wouldn't be surprised if in the future they would be banned.

Laura+Tom is right use an analog watch instead. And if indeed watches digital or not are banned, there's sure to be clocks in various areas in the embassy. And, if you decide to bring any kind of watch during your interview it would be prudent and fairly obvious that you should bring your most inexpensive watch. If it's not allowed, at least you would least worry about loss or damage to your watch while in storage outside the interview area.

It shouldn't really be a big deal as you would be in the embassy premises for only a few hours.

You can't take anything that is electronic into the embassy at all so your best bet is to just leave your electronic watch alongside your mobile at the pharmacy. They do allow loose change but you have to keep that in your bag! If you are wearing a belt they ask you to take that off until you enter the embassy, then you can put it back on!

Nope there aren't any clocks in the London USEM..

July 29 interview: Both of us were there. The lady came down the line with plastic bags for pocket change, watches, cigarettes, lighters etc. to ride through the security scanner. Nick's watch has an LCD display (is that digital?) but she didn't actually look at specific watches. I was putting mine in the plastic bag and she told me I could just put it in my purse. Once through the airport like scanner, we put on our watches and wore them inside.

There was a big wall clock at the snack bar end of the big room over the table with coffee.

Thanks for all the replies especially Nich-Nick. Putting them through the scanner seems like the most pragmatic approach. I may chicken out though and leave the watch in the station left luggage with the rest of my stuff.
