well, my visit to the us went great, no problems at the border, took me all of 10 mins to check in get through the border and security and they didn't ask for any of the info i had to prove ties. I got back yesterday and today i received my packet 3, i just have a couple questions to make sure im reading it right, if i am what i understand is that i complete ds230 part 1 and ds 156 and ds156k and send those in, thats it for now right? and then while they are gone im waiting for them to send me the letter telling me when my interview is? or do i have to do the check list before they send me that.

so far i have everything on the check list i need except i dont have my medical but its my understanding that i need to have my letter telling me when my interview is in order to book an appointment, i also dont have the affidavit of support yet or the divorce certificate.

also, i have a passport, but i believe it expires in nov 2009, is this going to be a problem? it says it needs to be good for a year but can i even renew it before its supposed to expire?

I went and renewed my passport in person, it had around a year left and the dude was he and hawwing about me renewing it, then I stated it was for US immigration, and he said ok, and that was it!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

My husband renewed his passport before it expired so that the visa would go in the new passport that would be valid for 5 years. He applied in person (not sure if this is the norm in Canada--it would not be here) and they did ask him why he was renewing it early, but it wasn't a problem.
