School Transcripts

This probably a silly question, but my wife has my son's transcripts, of course they are in chinese. My wife wants to translate them and then get the translated information "stamped" at the school. Evidently this has been agreed upon with her and the school. My thought is to go to the "notary", but wife says she doesn't want to pay the money ... any suggestions or knowledge on this matter?

I would have the transcripts translated to English and certified.

You may also have them notarized when the translator signs them. Notary fee should not be that much. USCIS does not require a translated document to be notarized. If they will later be used for her son to attend school, you may want to check with a school in your area to see what they require. Some may want transcripts mailed directly from the school in China and then you will have to pay in the US to have them translated and certified.

Most US colleges require that transcripts be sealed and given directly to them, still sealed. Or, they require that the transcripts be mailed to them. In both cases, some certification is required, which is done by the issuing school. As to translations, the receiving college or school will need to arrange that at your expense.

Unless it involves a student visa, the USCIS has no interest in any scholastic records.

There are translation services here in the US that specialize in scholastic transcripts, especially concerning credits towards degrees here in the US, I would recommend finding one of them known for Chinese transcripts, so you will be sure of receiving all the credits possible.
