The cheese here isn't right - I agree. I tried some cheddar but it just didn't cut it. I miss Lancashire Crumbly Cheese!!!

Saffyre, there's a new cheese shop in Winter Park! The Cheese Shop on Park

I haven't had the chance to go there, yet, but I hear it's really good! I've also been able to pick up some really nice cheese at the Whole Foods right by there. I like that they let you have a taste of it before you buy it so you know what you're getting. If you go on the weekend you can get free wine to go with it, too.

Since you're not amazingly far away and I think there are others around from thr Orlando area, maybe we should try and arrange a VJ meet up. What do you think?

There are quite a few of us around I think...I am in Satellite Beach :D

Thanks, Poiteen! I was going to ask if you wanted to go for a cruise in the Stang this weekend but as you're busy coping with family, we can go another time.

The first few years here there were a variety of things I missed but now I would say having just one decent supermarket whatever it is would be at the top of my list. Oh, and somewhere nice to buy clothes. I still can't find good looking, well made clothes and always shop back in the UK.

I'm working on setting something up for a meet up.

I was thinking maybe we could meet up at Downtown Disney.....How does that sound to people?

I agree the bread here SUX!!!!! I bring lots back from Canada with me and freeze it. Especially the rye and the malt bread. But I have found one type of bread here in Walmart (of all places!) that is the closest to normal I have found. It's called Arnold Natural Wheat Original Brownberry Recipe. :)

Arnold's is my favorite bread too...I always buy the flax bread. It's hearty and the crust...amazingly is my favorite part.

I suppose my move wasn't as crazy far but there are things I do miss about living in Nebraska. I dearly miss kolaches, runzas, Valentino's pizza, Amigo's restaurant after a long night of drinking at the Saturday night keggers amongst many things. I also miss the way that even in the larger cities you were only a few minutes from the countryside and getting away from it all. I miss the trails along the Big Blue River, the wee country cemetaries (that are often inscribed in Czech), the pasture pond behind my parent's subdivision where you can find massive bullfrogs, the Old Market in Omaha and Indian Caves State Park.

Yeah, Bruce is nuts about that TJ's Coastal Cheddar too. I have to go out and get some more today now that I'm finally back in Cali...

Between the both of us, we miss: Feminax (me obviously, DUH), proper cheese, pickled eggs and onions (him only), Lucozade (gatorade is nasty), Mint Viscounts, Jammy Dodgers, gravy granules, PG Tips that don't cost like a gazillion dollars, pubs (me), rain (!!! but ask me again when it's December) and his mum (us both). My mom just bought me some Feminax when she was visiting my brother last month so I am a happy and uncrampy girly.

That Coastal cheddar is delish! Their Stilton is great too.

PG Tips & Bisto are both at World Market in Santa Monica/The Grove, Maven. Also, Jammy Dodgers. Failing that, you can get it at the Kings Head SHop in Santa Monica. Lucozade too. Probably pickled stuff too.

Robin - I have looked in every store we have been in and have only found the tom puree in tins - I must need to look harder!! I just find it odd, especially if you don't use it that often...

I will have to ask himself - he is very insistent about tomato puree coming in a tube. Thinking about it, it was probably Ralph's - the posh "Fresh Fare"-style Ralphs

I've seen in lots of places - also I think World Market. I've seen anchovy paste, tomato paste & garlic paste.

I think Albertson's as well.

This forum caught my attention and so thought I'd write my small contribution.

I would have to say the things I missed so far would be;

English tea - the closest I have found here is the Tetley tea you can buy at Walmart but it still doesn't taste the same.

Heinz Baked Beans - my parents are coming over for Christmas so that'll be on my 'please bring over list'. I don't know what they do to baked beans here but they are definitely not the same as in England.

Heinz Spaghetti - Same as above!

Cadburys Chocolate - Who doesn't! And no the Cadburys here is nothing like in England. So far the best chocolate I have found here is the Gerindelli ( I think I spelt it right) which you can get at most grocery stores. Right now Costco are selling it for the holiday season.

Bacon - American bacon is gross

Heinz tomato soup- I am yet to find a tomato soup I like here.(hence I am trying to make my own)

Hmm that is all I can think of off the top of my head. I am sure there is more, but it also goes the other way, there was things I missed from having in America when I was back in England too.

Kirsty
