Apparently missing documents in Packet 3

Knight here,

My fiance' got her Packet 3 a few days ago with some papers directing her how to get to the London medical examination place, a brief rundown on all the documentation she will need, and that was basically it. None of these documents have any numbering (e.g. IV-18) on the corners of the papers. Nothing is there. At first I thought we might have to download the items all this paperwork was talking about, from the London Embassy website (here:) http://london.usembassy.gov/cons_new/visa/.../visaforms.html

But in the papers Magpie got, there is mention of an interview date - which she was not given - and references to the "IV-18a that was previously sent to you" which, of course, she didn't get. I know what she has and doesn't have because I looked over all the papers she does have.

This creates an interesting paradox. It tells her to scrounge up her medical records, police records, Girl Scout merit badges papers, and so on and so forth, but states that "You must bring these with you to the interview. You can't submit them" - and just how the hell is she supposed to bring them to the interview if she doesn't even have an interview date?

We had thought that she was supposed to gather everything and submit it to the Embassy, but again no, it tells us that "Sorry, it's got to be brought with you to the interview."

Did the Embassy forget some other packet between this one and the NOA2 I got?

Knight when they mention bring the documents to the Interview in packet 3 what they mean is when you send back your checklist conatined in packet 3 that they are making sire you have all the required documents they require. Once they know you have all the documents and are ready they then send packet 4 which contains your interview date. Then when you go to the Interview you take all the original copies of the documentation asked for in packet 3. Packet 3 is basically just to make sure you are ready for the interview before they schedule an appointment so they dont have people cancelling as they arn't ready yet. As soon as you receive packet 3 you can book your medical too. The results of which are sent straight to the embassy ready for your interview.

In relation to the missing documents i've seen people on here who have scanned the full packet 3 onto their computer and have been more than willing to share with others, Nich&Nick for one. I'm sure someone will help you out with all the documents required for packet 3.

Hope this explained a little for you and I wish you both the best of luck

Stuart :)

Hi all==

I've had some PMs from Magpie and I think maybe London has changed their P3??? Dunno, but she mentioned IV18a, which is all the medical info, same as what I have. When I was describing IV-15 and that the first 4 pages are what's considered the checklist, she wrote back that she has IV-19. So I haven't seen her docs, but do you think IV19 is a new version. Mine says IV15 April 2008 in the bottom corner. Magpie is stressed out and kinda lost, so I'm having trouble understanding what she got. Can anybody else with a P3 from this month tell us if the document name and date says other than IV15 April 2008?

Ok, so what further makes me think there have been a few changes since we got the visa two months ago is the website. I was looking at a bookmark so I could send the link to Mag and the page reads differently now from what I've been referencing since we filed. This is the page http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_new/visa/iv/ds2001.html Now it does refer to immigrant visa, and the K1 is non-immigrant technically. However, the K1 info has been lumped under immigrant on the London website since the documents for the interview are so similar. There is a new form mentioned on that webpage the DS-2001. Look at the bottom of the webpage. Part of what it says is:

Notification of Applicant Readiness

Introduction

You may notify the Immigrant Visa Unit that you are ready for an interview by using this form DS-2001. The form indicates that you and your family members (if applicable) have obtained all the necessary documents for the immigrant visa interview.

So my opinion is...there is no more checklist. Could that be? You read their list of documents needed, gather the things, and turn in that one page DS-2001 to let them know you are ready for the interview.

The one thing I see on that page that would be different for a K1 is the Affidavit of Support. They refer to the I-864, but I still think that the I-134 may be used for K1, non-immigrant visas. It says that on this page about fiance visas

http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_new/visa/...processing.html

Also note in the upper right, links to further information.

This is totally new...the FAQ page http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_new/faqs/...a_iv.html#iv038

And for Magpie and fiance since I didn't answer your PM yet

We filled out online and mailed in these forms to London:

DS-230-I Part I, which is only pages 1 and 2 of a 4 page form. The other pages are for something other than K1.

DS-156 (in duplicate) DO NOT SIGN. You sign in front of the interviewer after taking an oath

DS-156K

DS-157 (males aged 16 to 45 only) (did not apply to us)

Those forms should be listed somewhere in your packet 3 instructions. If they have changed their requirements in any way, they should still give you a list of forms. Those forms can be found here http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_new/visa/.../visaforms.html

If you don't want to get the interview too soon, then wait 3-4 weeks before sending back, but don't let your NOA2 expire. It has a 4 month expiration from the date issued.

If you're in a hurry to get an interview, you mail that DS-2001 back with the above forms. If you're stalling for more time, then don't mail the form saying you have collected the personal documents requested back with the above DS forms. You can send it separately since it could take you awhile to get those other things they want. That form that states you have gathered all the personal documents they want you to bring to the interview and you are ready to be interview. You will not be given an interview date until you turn in that form DS-2001 or the IV15 checklist which basically has the same information to fill in. At this point I don't know if IV15 checklist is still used or if this newly discovered document takes it's place. I like the new form, it's one page and makes sense to me. Your list of personal documents to bring to the interview is in your P3. It's things like police certificate, birth certificate, divorce decree (if applicable), Affidavit of Support from the USC, etc, etc. Hope that helps you.

Your welcome Magpie.

Here's one more link for people to know all the whole list of documents to bring to the interview.

http://www.usembassy.org.uk/cons_new/visa/iv/docs169.html

Each of you will have slightly different situations so read the list. Some will need divorce decrees. Some will have military records. Some will have a child and need the ex-spouses permission to leave the country verified.

All will need a police certificate. It has to be ordered and must include passport photos that have been signed on the back by someone who has known you for at least two years. Read the instructions and the list of people who can sign. All this gathering takes time, so work on it before you get your P3 if you want to speed things up.

All will need the "long form" of their birth certificate, which means your mother and father's names must be on it. I guess there are "short forms" in the UK with only your name and date of birth on it.

London wants to see originals or certified copies (signed or stamped by an official) of your personal documents at the interview. You should make a photocopy of everything you are taking...police, birth, divorce, military, etc. That way, they can see the original or certified copy with their own eyes to know it's real, then put the photocopy you provide in your file, and give you back the originals to take home.

Hooray! Magpie and I have solved the mystery by trading scans.

She should have gotten:

Cover letter for Packet 3. (She did)

IV-15 instuctions/checklist. (She didn't. They sent her IV19 reminders that come with Packet 4)

IV-18a medical information. (They did and I will comment that it's slightly changed and more informative, but does not affect your filing and the medical questionaire is the same.)

Another helpful tip if you haven't found this on Visa Journey...go up to the menu bar at the top of the page (under the pictures of couples) and click Embassy Info. Find United Kingdom and read about the embassy. Also there is a link to reviews and descriptions of people's interviews.
