Well I just plain forgot to post up about our petition being approved. Vermont recieved our petition on October 1, 2008. We got approved on March 2 and I called the NVC and it only took them 4 days to forward the petition to the embassy in Hong Kong. Lorena recieved her packet from the embassy on March 20. I'm getting so very excited that she will soon be here with me...;-)

Congrats!! Sounds like things are going smoothly. We were approved the same day and we are flyng home together tomorrow.

Chelsea, Yeah... We picked up our visa last Friday. The Embassy here was so fast. Balvino was so excited. Having the visa in hand was very important to him. Each step has been a hurdle for me. I can't believe Balvino and I will be in my house tomorrow.

Good luck everyone!

NVC can take anywhere from 1 day to a least 7 weeks (that's the longest I've seen) to forward to the Embassy. It depends on whether they have pulled your file for any additional security checks.

When I went to the embassy they actually made a change on my DS-156..in red ink. Both of Balvino last names needed to be on the first line. Duh just like the passport. It was nice to know that they do allow a little room for human error. I hope all is going well.

Now I need to double check on that with Josue. The thing is we have just been using his paternal last name (which is also the name I will take) and listed his complete name with maternal last name in "other names used." Before I found VJ I had bought a book about Fiance & Spouse Visas and there was this section about "What is my name?" but there was nothing for Hispanic names grr so we just did the best we could. Everything has been ok up til this point, hopefully it will continue to be that way, but I will double check on the DS-156 we filled out.

You two are coming soon, right? Do you have the visa in hand? (Sorry, I remember the interview went well I just didn't remember if he actually had it already or had to wait for mail, etc.)

Whatever is on Josues passport as his last names should go on the first line. I made the misrake of breaking the name up and putting his fathers name on the first line and his mothers name on the third line under his first name. They made that correction at the embassy. I stressed out doing the DS 156 but they say to follow what is on the passport. I hope this makes sense.

I plan on taking Balvinos name so we will be Waldan-Brown just like the Latinos:)

I would contact USCIS then and ask if and when they sent your case onto NVC.

Keep checking for touches on your case. If I remember correctly the last touch was when it was sent to NVC. Does the NVC tell you to call back and check in a certain amount of time? Good Luck..arrgh more waiting. I am not sure I ever received my NOA2. No word from my family about the mail.

There must be at least 5 people on VJ who have received their NOA2 in Feb/March from VSC but yet to get the paper copy. This is a bit disturbing, as the replacement fee is about $340, and a copy is necessary for AOS. Please contact USCIS and explain your situation. If you are told that you need to file for a replacement, ask to speak with a supervisor. Kindly ask the supervisor to track down the NOA2. Someone had mentioned that they can determine whether it's been sent already, and if so whether it was delivered or not.

Waiting a week or two is one thing, but if you've been waiting longer than that, USCIS needs to be informed.

Our's is being forwarded from Bahrain so it's probably taking it's sweet time. If it doesn't arrive soon Tom is calling USCIS. They don't usually charge you if it's been lost because of a move. They wouldn't let him change his address so it's their fault anyway!

That's really exciting! Tomorrow is so...close! I leave two weeks from tomorrow to go see him and hopefully come back with him! Come back asap and let us know some of his reactions...has he ever been to the US?

Speaking of which, does anybody know how the 10 year tourist visa works? Does that mean they can use it multiple times over 10 years or just that they have 10 years to do it but only 1 time? We're just wondering what it's going to take to get Josue's parents here to visit and since the visa fee is $131 a pop I wonder how that works. Thanks!

Chelsea - I think they can use it as a multiple entry visa for 10 years, is there anything on the embassy website about it?

Tom found a house to rent last night, the first one he went to see. So I finally have an address which is great.
