Urgent: Is PCC from passport office enough for India?

Passport in India was issued couple of months. I just have PCC from passport office. Don't have the one from district office.

Is that enough to pass thru NVC with DS-230?

Has anyone successfully case completed IV package by submitting PCC from passport office ONLY?

Want to avoid an RFE. Please help!

Indian Police Clearance Certificates should be obtained as follows:

All Indian IV applicants aged 16 and above, residing in India, should obtain police certificates from the local Passport Office. These are usually more dependable than those obtained at a local level and indicate that the subject had no serious criminal convictions on record at the time of passport issuance. Applicants whose Indian passport was issued within the past six months may present just the Passport Office Police Certificate, and need not obtain additional police clearances.

Applicants over age 16, whose passports were issued more than six months previous to visa application, must also obtain a police clearance from the District Police Office serving the applicant's place of residence.

Indian passport holders applying for visas outside India should obtain a statement from their local embassy or consulate confirming they have no criminal record.

Non-Indian IV applicants residing in India should obtain police certificates from the District Police Station serving their area of residence.

Indian police certificates are not available for foreign (non-Indian) applicants applying outside India.

Hope this helps.

Have a look at our NVC guide for more info that may help.

LingLing,

Thanks for the quick response. I am aware of the requirement which you stated.

I have seen threads in the past in VJ where they were issued RFE or their case was delayed (Bani's cousin) because they submitted PCC from passport office only.

That's why I wanted to hear from folks from India who have successfully completed their case at NVC by only submitting PCC from passport office.

Hope somebody can answer quickly.

yeye,

If you want to avoid an RFE, even if your passport was issued within the last 6 months, it would be safer to get the district office PCC.

You've already noted a case where someone received an RFE.

I know exactly where you're at...it took an extra 10 days to get our PCC., and probably cost us 15 to 20 days processing time.

I know people that had to pay lawyers nearly $1000 to get their PCC.

It's not easy to comply with all their rules, but it's ultimately the only way.

I know it's nice if somebody tells you to try bending the rules and taking a shortcuts, but some shortcuts don't work for everyone.

Good luck

well .. its up to u to take a risk .. while sendin it to NVC it would be fine .. but during interview u will have to submit pcc from passport office and district offficer ..

its matter of payin 3000 Rs to District office instead of delayin ur visa proces ..

i got thro my CR1 interview from chennai with a bule slip to sumbit an updated version of PCC from Passport office even though i had PCC from district police taken last month .. while i submitted for DS-230 to NVC they never mentioned any problem with the PCC from passport office which was taken during the 130 submission.. and i got my interview date within a very short notice i didnt have time to apply for a new PCC from Passport office .

now i'm workin on my PCC for my visa to be stamped on my passsport ..

so why dont you just get it ... it takes only 3 days to get approved .. so u dont have to worry later with ur visa process being delayed

goodluck

yeye,

We know it's time and a hassle, and money...but we all are equally frustrated with the system and process.

BECAUSE we all dislike the system, we would rather that nobody else has to suffer through what we have.

That's why we sometimes have to tell you what you need to hear, instead of what you want to hear.

Call it tough love...but believe it or not, I want you to be with your spouse as soon as you can...and without the hassle of an RFE

Looks like Mary's been there...done that.

...the journey continues.

So far my spouse hasn't gone through the interview. But for her PCC I only submitted the Passport Office PCC to NVC because her passport was newly issued. No RFE was triggered, and my case was completed.

Thank you tirchimirchi. That's what I was looking for.

When you submitted your docs to NVC with DS-230, did you mention anywhere that the certificate from district police is not needed because passport is less than 6 months old?

I am debating whether to put that kind of note to avoid any confusion at NVC.

Good luck in your interview next week!

I am assuming you will not submit the district police certficate. Please let me know if they ask for it during the interview. I will also be going through Delhi.

I am just frustrated with the PCC system especially when I know it will take awhile for us since she will need clearance from Indian consulate in Saudi where she was born and lived. All I can say that PCC is just as important doc as marriage certificate and need to have in the hand well ahead of NOA2 but not more than 6 month old.

Hello yeye

I think you should not take chance .

U should aply for Local PCC . District police will take one month and issue the PCC (without bribe) . I got my PCC form local police station with in one month without paying them a single penny .

I think if u give them something they will issue the PCC with is 15 days .

My passport is also new but i submitted both the PCC's ( from local police and passport PCC).

Good luck

Yeye. In my case I just submitted PCC from passport office only.

Infact they were saying you need 1 from local police station as well, I told them on the phone to review the passport copy as her passport was issued in May which makes us fall under 6 months so they accepted it.

They have to approve your DS230 without both PCC's and just from Passport office if your passport was issued within past 6 months. Its their own rule, they cannot deny it.

Hi OOM, Mystique, thanks for your responses! OOM I understand your cautious approach and I have applied for PCC from district police. But, in order to avoid delaying the process, I am planning on submitting ds-230 without district PCC

Mystique,

thankyou for your response. It gives me assurance that it works. Did they generate a RFE for your district PCC? Did you talk to a supervisor to resolve this issue over the phone? Any details you can provide will be very helpful.

I didn't know customer service reps had access to your files that they could go through your passport copy.

Thanks again,

yeye
