Guys,

Sorry for the late reply, have just been pretty busy as of late.

We (my fiancee was with me) had our interview last Sep.2, 2008. Our interview experience went very well. We'll just give a short overview of how things went since there have been numerous posts here already that provide a very detailed explanation of what to expect and the process for the Interview.

Our appointment was scheduled for 7AM, so we were at the Embassy as early as 6AM.

1. We queued up shortly entering the Embassy and the guard just asked for my Confirmation Letter and my Fiancee's Passport. We were then allowed to enter and asked to line up just outside the doorway entrance, after which we were directed to enter and place our bags on the x-ray machine and patted down as part of the Embassy's security measures.

2. We then headed to the Immigrant Visa Section and upon entering were again directed to sit (the guards arrange you in the order that you arrive as well as your appointment time and Visa Application Type). After which, we headed to the ticket booth to secure a ticket (this ticket has the number that will be flashed on the boards).

3. After several minutes, our number was flashed for the pre-screening window. The pre-screener was kind and she just asked for our I-134 and other financial documents (we provided my fiancee's latest ITR, W-2's and Letter of Employment) and other pictures and letters (to prove a bona fide relationship). She then asked a few questions like my name, full name of my fiancee and type of Visa being applied for. I was then instructed to sit down and wait.

4. After waiting for several minutes, my name was called and I was asked to proceed to Counter 16 for fingerprint scanning. After scanning my fingerprints, I was then told to wait.

5. After waiting, again, my number was flashed and was told to wait outside Window 30. We were informed that only the Visa Applicant will be allowed to enter. When it was my turn, I entered and the Consular Officer was a middle-aged man (probably in his 40's). He greeted me good morning and I greeted him back. He asked me to sit down while he went over a few things, and before he asked anything, he signed a blue form. He then asked my my name, my fiancee's name, her job in the U.S. and how we met. He then looked at some pics (the pics I handed to the pre-screener) and he returned them along with the letters and emails (which I also earlier submitted to the pre-screener). He also asked if I had been married before and I replied "No". He then asked me if I intended to work in the U.S. and I replied "Yes". He asked "You intend to work as what?" I replied "Well, assuming I get a Visa and after marrying my fiancee, I plan to take the California State Bar and work as a lawyer." The CO then smiles and asks, "Are you a lawyer?" I replied "Yes". He then smiles and says "Well, I think i just might deny you for being a lawyer." I smile and reply back "Don't you think that's an unfair discrimination for just being a lawyer?" The CO then laughs and says, "Well, I don't see any problems with your case. Don't worry you passed. But we just need to verify that you have not been married before. We can't just take your word for it right?" I replied, "I totally understand". The CO then asks me to step outside and wait. I give my thanks and leave. All in all, the interview itself just took 7 minutes (my fiancee timed it the moment I entered the interviewing room)

6. We waited for a few more minutes, after which my name was called and I was instructed to proceed to Window 37. I was given a pink slip and a white slip since they still had to verify a few documents, particularly my Certificate of No Marriage (CENOMAR).

7. We then paid the Visa Delivery Fee (Php 250) at the DELBROS Counter, and then we left the embassy.

8. We were home in Makati by 9:15 AM

Like I said earlier, our interview experience was pleasant and it only took 3 hours (from entering the USEM to the Interview to getting Home). My advice is to just listen and pay attention most particularly to what the CO is asking and just be candid and forthright without volunteering unwanted information. Just answer what the CO is asking, no more no less.

To all of us who have passed the Interview...Congratulations!

To the other VJ Members awaiting their Medical and Interview Dates... Good Luck!

We are now waiting for my Visa to be delivered and we join the other VJ Members here stuck in the DV Process. Here's hoping and praying that we get our Visas soon.
