Hi there, i was wondering if someone could help me, i apologise if this is something that has been brough up before but i have looked and cannot seem to find the answer i am looking for.

once you start filing for your K1 visa, down the line you have to go for a medical in london and also your interview in london, whats confusing me though is, when do you actually go to your medical? do you wait until you are told to go for one? do you make one yourself anytime? when is it you are supposed to go and how do you know its time for one? im confused because it says you will be told when you are told that you have an interview date, but the interview seems like it can be given without much notice and also people seem to be talking about getting their medical when they don`t have an interview date. so can someone please explain to me how this works exactly?

any info would be much appreciated.

thank you very much

Paul

I'm not sure about the UK, but I called the embassy in Brazil and they said that the medical can be done at anytime as long as it's not older than a year. We waited until the last minute to have the medical done just in case we delay adjusting status once he's here. When you adjust status, you do not need a full medical if your medical for the K-1 is less than a year old.

I'm sure others here can respond to you about the UK. Good luck with your K-1.

It would help to know where you are in the process. You should make a timeline. It's in the left pane under the names and flags.

After NOA2 (don't know if you have that yet) you will get a letter from the NVC telling you your petition has been sent to London and you get a new case number LNDxxxxxxx (for London). There are many shortcuts to get that number early. You are supposed to wait on your Packet 3 from London which will give you further instructions and medical info and a form to fill out to take to the medical. Again VJers have shortcuts they know about. Once you know the LND number, you can call for the medical and make the appointment before the interview if convenient or just the day before if you have to travel a long way to London. There's only one place to get it--in London. If you look at the UK regional forum, there is a sticky at the top where people tell all about the medical appointment experience. The earlier posts are about a different location. I don't think they are actually doing them but one location now.

I've made a bunch of posts about UK process and you can search for them by clicking my profile and "show member posts." Lots of random talk, but also some good experience info too. Sorry I'm pressed for time right now and can't elaborate more, but maybe you are early in the process and have time to look around and read some.

You get the instructions to arrange the interview when you get packet 3 back from the Embassy.

Packet 3 also contains the instructions on what documents you need to have ready for when you go for the visa interview.

There is no point in bothering about the short cuts to try and arrange the medical early as packet 3 contains a check list which is the list of documents you require for the interview. When you have all those documents you send the check list back to tell the Embassy you are ready for the interview. About 3 - 4 weeks after the check list is received at the Embassy you get the interview. So you can see there is plenty of time to arrange the medical before the interview if you wish.

Check list can be found here: http://london.usembassy.gov/cons_new/visa/iv/docs169.html

Details for medical here: http://www.visamedicals.info/us.asp

That information should give you plenty of time to start gather the documentation asap.

Hi thanks again for the help guys, i really appreciate all the advice. i`m actually just starting out the process, thats why i don`t have a timeline but i want to know everything i can as soon as possible so i can plan for it.

my problem is that i live in the north of scotland, so travelling to london will be quite an expensive trip for me and could be quite a lot of hassle, so ideally what i`d like to do would be to go down the day before my interview and have my medical then, or the day after, anywhere around the interview where i wouldn`t have to make two trips all the way to london, but whats worrying me is that i don`t want to leave anything out or take any risks so i dont know how easy it is to arrange the medical. for example if i get told my medical is on the 7th, and i called the doctors, will they manage to definatley fit me in for the 6th? you know what i mean? i`m just worried that waiting for the interview date could mean i miss my chance to get a medical booked.

so really i`d like to know what everyone thinks about me waiting to try and get the medical right around the time of the interview, is that a safe option? is it risky? what do you think? i`d really like to be able to do the medical and interview it in one trip.

any help or advice on here would be really very much appreciated as i am not sure on these things.

thanks for your help so far, i hope i hear some more from everyone.

thanks

Paul

Like I said you normally get around 3 weeks notice of your interview. The doctors as a general rule have appointments within 7 days. So it is reasonable to expect that if the doctors have 3 weeks or so notice of when you want an appointment there is an extremely good chance they will be able to fit you in the day before or after your interview.

Not a good idea to fix a doctors appointment the same day as the interview as there is no way of knowing how long you will be at the Embassy. People have done but why add to the stress level, if you can manage an overnight stay in London. There are reasonably priced hotels near the Embassy where people have stayed so I'm sure they will be able to point you to them.
