I am going coo coo for co co puffs about this birth certificate problem I have. I don't know, but I keep beating myself up about it because I keep getting different answers.

I have posted numerous times that I am afraid to send my original Birth Cert. Ok. So in attempt to fix the issue, I contacted Puerto Rico today. I really do have to send an original. I live in Washington State, but I was born in Puerto Rico. I called PR about BC and the nice lady said that it would take over 6 weeks to get. SHe didn't know how long but assured me that it would take a very long time.

I'm going to send my real BC. I have no other option. (UNLESS YOU KNOW OF SOMETHING?) Oh BTW. My fiance is Mexico City. See why i am afraid? Lots of creep-Os!

Secondly. The dude at CDJ told me that Jorge has to have my passport, ORIGINAL..... He has a beautiful color blown up copy that I made for him. :innocent: if I send the BC, is that sufficient? I am SO afraid. I hate when I'm this unsure and keep asking over and over. I apologize to those that I am bothering with this topic, but it really is starting to make me crazy. I wanna cry

I, too, think I will receive my packet last week of Aug, first week of Sept. So hopefully my love can be here by the end of Sept. (if all goes well). I will not attend his interview, i have no $$$$$$$$$$$$

What should I do?

The only thing I can think of after reading your post is that you will never have an original of your BC. The original is under lock and key somewhere. You're going to get a certified original copy from the Gov't. with some type of seal. Order as many of them as you want, and send that to them. That's what they are referring to when they say "original". Something with a seal...something that is certified...not a copy of it.

Now you're saying they want your original passport. Are you the beneficiary or the petitioner? Don't know why they'd want the original of your passport unless you are the beneficiary and they want to insert your visa. So, my suggestion is to send them a certified copy of your BC and then see what they say. Don't be sending your passport. If they still insist on seeing it, I'd be going down there and showing it to them if you're that worried.

Just my opinion.

Are you sure your fiance is not confused by the instructions?

http://ciudadjuarez.usconsulate.gov/root/p...wwwfcdj400a.pdf

At least at this website they need the applicant's (your fiance's) originals, not the petitioner's. I would e-mail the consulate directly and try and get clarification. I seriously doubt any consulate/embassy in the world would require a USC to send their passport to someone overseas (be it a fiance, spouse, relative. employer, etc).

I suspect there is some misinterpretation going on here. It makes no sense that an original passport would be requested.

Please tell us the exact wording of any official request that has given you the impression the Consulate is requesting your original birth certificate and/or your actual passport so we can help you understand what is needed.

I totally agree with you John. I think there is some confusion on Maria's part as to whose BC and Passport is required at the interview, which in both cases, are going to be Jorge's.

The USC only has to provide proof of citizenship when submitting the I-129F.

I am actually the petitioner. I live in Washington State, but I was born in Puerto Rico...which makes it difficult to get a certified copy of my BC. I called Puerto Rico and they told me it would take a "very long time" to get it. That is why I am thinking of sending my fiance in Mexico my real BC, which I have in my hands. He has a copy copy..not certified, but a xerox copy...but he needs the sealed one; therefore, i gotta send my real one.

As for my passport: the person I spoke with from Ciudad Juarez told me that I need to send my real passport too. He nees "all" originals is what he had told me.

I wonder if that guy just doesn't know what he is talking about. Maybe he does mean that Jorge needs HIS originals, not mine.

I really think they have you confused with the beneficiary. I never sent a copy, or original BC to my then fiancee, and I certainly never sent my passport, or even a copy of my passport. I only used a copy of my passport when I submitted the I-129F.

Read the instructions in the link that rin_and_john posted, and you will see all the documentation that Jorge will need.

Whomever you spoke with in CDJ is whacko for telling you to send your passport to your fiance. That's just nuts!

Thank you everybody for your help!!! A lot of people might have thought that I was the beneficiary, not the petitioner.

I did look at that site. Ok. SO... Since Jorge has a Xeroxed copy of my BC and Passport, will that do just fine? I won't send any of that then.

They do ask for an original birth certificate as well as any other documents like that (marriage certificates...death certificates) of the petitioner at the interview stage. But, as Carla already suggested, this does not mean the original one you got at birth...you do not have that. What you have is simply a certified copy (raised or shiny seal?). If you send the one you have and then just order another from the record holder of the county in which you were born you'll be all set.

I agree with the others regarding your passport. No way would I send that.

good luck

Thank you :)

And everyone else. That is what I will do. I will order myself a certified copy and send the one I do have for Jorge. That way I too will have a certified copy in case the one I send to Jorge gets lost/stolen. Or if all goes as planned, I will end up with 2 certified copies. I will not send my passport. With my BC that should be enough to proof that I am a USC! :)

May I please ask where you get your information from, since you have not been through an interview yourself?

They want original documents at the time of the interview, but from the BENEFICIARY, not from the petitioner. If you read the pdf file from CDJ consulate that was posted, it does not indicate anywhere that the petitioner must provide their BC or Passport.

It does however state the following requirement:

If petitioner or fiancée have been married previously, must bring original and photocopy of proof of termination or dissolution of each such prior marriage.

I have been meaning to ask this- as far as the Petitioner´s passport goes, do I need to send in a copy? And when you make a copy of your passport, do you just copy every single page, no matter if there ins´t anything on it? Same for the beneficiary, should he make a copy of his? Every page of his is blank... but we still need to make of copy? Thanks!

In answer to your condescending remarks..... it's in the VJ guides to send original documents.

btw.. regardless of your opinion toward me or my timeline... i've been here for quite some time answering questions correctly. It has been asked more than once to have original documentation of petitioners documents sent with petition at Consulate stage.. even at NZ.... so i'm not just talking out my @ss as you seem to be suggesting. Perhaps it's not required in Juarez but it's not just folks going through Juarez reading this.

I'm an organizer here so apparently someone thinks I might know a thing or two.. even though we've not had our interview yet. ;) I didn't know our knowledge was judged on our timelines.

We could all do without the arrogance. Thanks.

What to send to your fiance(e) once the I-129F is approved (Receive NOA2):

1. A copy of the entire I-129f package (that you made when you sent the petition in) and a copy of information that you sent back due to an RFE (if you received one).

2. Send all originals of the documentary proof that you submitted for the I-129F to your fiance(e) for their interview at the embassy.

3. Send an original letter affirming your desire to marry your fiance(e) and your continued support of the K-1 Visa. Sign and date the form. This will be similar to the letter you provided with the I-129F, but dated much closer to the interview (it will have most likely been several months since you submitted your I-129F).

4. I-134 Affidavit of Support form. Ensure it is notarized (by a US Notary Public), with all required supporting evidence. Begin collecting the required information ahead of time, as it can often take several weeks to collect it all.

5. You will likely need at a minimum (for the above form) two to three of your most recent pay stubs and a signed letter from your employer listing you job title, start date, your salary, and the status (full-time) of your position. Begin collecting these ASAP after your NOA2 arrives. You will also probably want to include other evidence such as your banking information and other assets as required by the I-134. Specifically you will need at least 2 of the 4 options mentioned in Section II-Supporting Evidence of the I-134. See this FAQ for more tips and ueful information on the Affidavit of Support Form.

6. A copy of the NOA2 that you received in the mail.

7. Proof of your ongoing relationship. This needs to be taken to the interview! Include photos, travel documents, emails, etc from between the time you filed and present (NOA1 date-now).

Examples: Copies of phone bills, cell phone bills, emails (you can edit personal info with a marker), letters (edit personal info also), stamps on the letters (to document the date they were sent), and other written documentary proof. Provide a reasonable amount; two to four of each type. Pick a range of dates up to and including the present. You can also include a copy of engagement ring receipt (this is something that is a big optional - do not worry if you do not have a ring yet!)

He will need to take his passport with him to the interview, and it must be valid for at least 6 months past the date of the visa.

You already provided proof of citizenship when you submitted the I-129F package.

Didn't you send a copy with your petition???

Best to copy all pages.

He'll have his at the interview so they can look at it then.

Each Consualte is very different in what they request for interview so your best bet is to check the link above and then with the folks who went through Juarez to see if there's anything specifically you will need.

good luck at your interview!
