I was curious if anyone traveled to their loved one's home and you both flew/drove/ferry back to the States together.

Obviously, some may do this out of necessity, meaning lots of furniture or just need help in general. I wonder if anyone

did it to be a gentleman/lady or just be really sweet?

I'm planning on going up to Halifax a few days earlier before she leaves to help her and then we can fly back together as

our "first" step in a path of many :) I think it'll be nice too, because Halifax like many major Canadian airports has

U.S. pre-clearence, so ironically...her P.O.E. will still be within Canada.

A lot of people do this. Especially US-Canadian couples, because many of us drive down. I wasn't much help to my man when he moved---all I did was sit in the car as he drove across the prairie for five days---but I did go with him.

I flew to Moscow for the K-1 interview and paced out on the sidewalk in the falling snow. We had to wait an eternity for the visa to arrive (my passport had less than a week left on it) and then took the long flights back to here. It was a wonderful experience and I'm so glad we got to take the journey together.

Nick and I drove down together.

Nick came up and helped my family and I pack the uhaul and then we drove the 7 and 1/2 hour trip together.

We had so much fun and I loved every second. I packed a lunch and lots of snacks, we had some great tunes and just enjoyed the ride.

:) It was my torch through this whole thing, the thought of us driving together home got me through many a lonely day.

Let's Keep the Song Going!!!

Joe flew up to Detroit, rented a van and drove to my place in Canada. We then loaded the van with my 6 cats, houseplants and enough belongings for a week and drove the two days back to Atlanta. When he was crossing the border into Canada the border guard asked him where he was going and why. Joe responded that he was going to Chatham to pick up his fiancee, drive her back to Georgia and get married. The border guard waved him through saying "Drive on, brother, drive on. Far be it from me to stand in the way of another man's misery!" Joe came because this was our journey - we started it together and it seemed right for us to finish it together. Of course, it was really just another beginning:-).

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

My wife was suppose to, instead on the big day--she went in for a root canal, lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I think travelling back together is an amazing idea. I'm thinking that Robin will fly to Buffalo, rent a van and then drive to Mississauga to pick me up and then we can drive back together.

Even if I was flying I think it would be a hard thing to do alone! Even after waiting and being apart for so long.

Thanks for all the replies.

I'm sort of debating back n forth in my head on this timing of things. We are waiting on Packet 3 for her and I'm out of a job right now.

Part of me wants to spend some time up there given the abundance of free time that I have at the moment. On the other hand, the interview

is likely 1-2 months from this point, assuming the packet comes soon and there is not a long appointment list at the embassy. I wouldn't mind

flying up there at that point either. I do plan on flying up to Halifax and then spending some time saying goodbye and flying back together.

So my debate with myself is when/if:

Now?

Now and Halifax?

Now and Montreal and Halifax?

Montreal and Halifax?

I can't decide :(

My husband did not drive with me to his home as he was working. But it was my preference that I did it alone. This may sound funny to some, but I needed the time to think as I drove down. As I crossed the border I began to cry because I was upset about leaving my country behind, which I knew was going to happen, so I just sort of wanted to be alone. I figured Jared and I have a lot of time to be together.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

I live near Detroit and my wife was in Windsor so I was driving there every weekend anyway (only about 45 minutes away if you go the speed limit, so about 30 minutes for me haha). I flew to Montreal for the interview and I'm SO glad I did because we actually got bad news, but when she finally got approved I picked her up, watched her folks have a good cry, and then came over at midnight on a Wednesday. Seriously is one of the best memories of my life, I recommend you go to both so that you both can smile about it later. Good luck!

My wife has been back since June 5, 2007. Now we're just livin' man, L I V I N :)
