Made error on DS-156

I incorrectly typed my fiance's passport number on the DS-156. Is there any way of correcting it online? If not, will there be a problem at the interview? Can we white out the incorrect number and write in the correct number? Do I just call the embassy and explain the error and ask their advice?

If you have a number where you can call the embassy, I think it's always best to ask them. Nothing wrong from getting it straight from the horse's mouth. It was an honest mistake, so just call and ask. They won't bite.

My attorney's assistant actually filled out the DS-156. I asked if it's possible to correct it, but she said she wasn't aware of a way to correct it and only said to use "white out" and write in the correct number. Since you've already been through the K-1 process and completed the DS-156, do you know if it's possible to correct it and reprint it?

Based on our Embassy experience, no matter what you do there will be corrections! Ours was a mass of handwritten corrections! I thought we did good until the prescreener got ahold of us, and then he even missed stuff we had to fix at the window!

I don't know of any way to make online corrections once you submit the form. If you are really worried about it you can always redo the whole form online. To my knowledge, the only link between the visa application and your records is the barcode on the bottom. If you make a new form you get a new barcode...

It's ok to white it out and then handwrite the correct information. Or, you can ask whoever prepared the DS-156 to make a new one and correct the mistake. Either one will be fine. I remember, I had to do some corrections on all my DS forms.

Thank you all for your replies. I am now relieved and hopeful that this will not cause any delays in receiving his visa or worse, a denial.
