Does anyone know whether I need passports for my kids to take to the consulate interview or is just the long form birth certificate ok?

If they are getting a visa then they need passports at the interview!!

I got passports for my kids at the same time I did mine. I had to send a photocopy of the biographic page of all of our passports to NVC.

I asked this in the UK forum as far as attending interview goes - and while you don't need to take the child if they are under 14 for the London Embassy (it may be different in other embassies!), you do need to take all their paperwork including passports, birth certs etc.
