hello all.....

my father will be the sponsor for my wife because while living abroad I can't show with past w2's that I make enough to support her.

anyhow,

Do we need just one I-134 completed by my father with all necessary documents? Or should I send one for myself also?

I have everything from my father ready to send to my wife, but I'm just making sure that's all I need.

Also.......question #11 on the form

11. (Complete this block only if the person named in the item 3 will be in the United States temporarily.)

That I.... intend..... do not intend, to make specific contributions to the support of the person named in item 3.

(If you check "intend," indicate the exact nature and duration of the contributions. For example, if you intend to

furnish room and board, state for how long and, if money, state the amount in United States dollars and state

whether it is to be given in a lump sum, weekly or monthly, or for how long.)

What do I put here?? Its a bit confusing. My wife will not be here temporarily, so I guess I don't need to answer??

Thanks a lot!

Hi Jon,

According to the Lebanese Embassy, I had to send one as well as the co-sponsor. As for question 11 was concerned, I wasn't sure of that myself, I just checked I do not intend to make specific contributions. Email the embassy just to be sure, but I would go ahead and prepare to send both forms.

Are you currently living abroad or in the US?

Even if your wife has as co-sponsor, you still are the main sponsor, so you should also accomplish a notarized I-134. Moreover, as proof of income, it's advisable to send an original paystub and original letter of employment.

(was in the same situation. My husband was in the philippines for a year. he has a certificate of no file for 2007. his mom was our co-sponsor. we submitted an original paystub and notarized letter of employment).

Hmm.. I just went through my duplicate copy of the I-134. I don't see the "complete this block.." part on item 11.I do see the other sentences you mentioned. But from my understanding, the documents are supposed to be uniform and downloadable from the same USCIS site.

OP, daisychain is correct. You will be the main sponsor, so you will need to fill out a I134. Your father will be the co-sponsor, and should do the same.

If you use the latest version of the I134 (02/28/07) it doesn't inclue the "temporary" part. So fill in that question. If your father is not planning to directly give her money, he can check do not intend.

For my wife I put something like "I intend to support my wife with everything I have for the rest of my life."

1. You need to fill out an I-134.

2. Your father also needs to fill an I-134 as he is your co-sponsor.

3. On question 11 you can put I DO NOT INTEND to make specific contributions. I've helped people fill out their I-134s like that and they haven't had any issues so far.

Yes, the same form is used for tourist visas. Although checking "no" is appropriate enough for K1 or K3, the partner's reaction would seem to cast a strong vote for the alternative of "yes" and "I will support the beneficiary as my spouse." Now comes a test of your relationship communication skills. Good luck.

We are going the K-3 route and I put the same type of response on my form as Urgetorace: "for the rest of our lives".

??? The questions appears to relate more to a co-sponser situation than a marriage relationship. Tracy
